Selected music does not play, only unrelated suggestions

I have been frustrated many times recently when shuffle playing a range of different playlists and albums, I have not been permitted to listen to any of the actual songs I chose but instead a stream of totally unrelated songs from different genres altogether. After exhausting the skips, it keeps going with mostly the same suggested songs, until I get fed up and turn off the app altogether. Are Ad funded users not intended to be able to use the playlist or album listening features any longer, or are those features intended to have become the same as listening to a spotify radio with no specific genre chosen? Or has the 'suggested songs' 'feature' become bugged in accounting for too high a percentage of songs? Also, regarding the genre of suggested songs is it intentionally unrelated or are they chosen based on a different parameter like being paid to promote them specifically?
