Shuffle badge next to Play button always toggled on

Lately the horrendous Spotify application on android plays all albums and playlists in shuffle mode by default (which should even be illegal). I never ever listen to any album on random, it doesn't make any sense. But someone on Spotify decided to change the themes order on all albums ever made. Maybe it's a joke but it's taking too long to end.  I know that I can always disable it after starting to play the first music, but I want the inverse, I want to disable that annoying thing from default. I already checked the settings but I didn't figure out how to fix this stupidity.

Hey Alex,

That's the behavior I've had since I first reported this, and it's not a good solution. I know I can switch off Shuffle, but it should remember my default. That if I switch it off, it should remain switched off for every playlist - or at least add a setting to decide the default behavior.

Every time I launch a playlist, I need to remember to switch of shuffle. This is just terrible.

Thanks for bringing your feedback to the Community. 

In this case, could you make sure the Shuffle option is not active from your end? You can check this by following these steps.  

Once you deactivate this option, you should be able to listen to your playlists in order from now on.

Of course I can turn it off. The whole point is that you made shuffle to be on by default in every list! It wasn't like this before. And it does not make any sense. 99,9% of my lists are meant to be played in that exact order.

I don’t understand the purpose. In my opinion the lists are made randomly from the beginning. So why shuffle them? And if they were made in a certain order deliberately. Why shuffle them?

Thanks for your reply and for coming back.

In this case, the issue you mentioned before (Shuffle always on by default) was reported, and this should be fixed by now. If not, we suggest that you reinstall the latest version of the app. You can do this by following these steps. If it's still the same after doing this, we recommend waiting for the next available update of the app. 

Lastly, and in order to prevent confusion, keep in mind that @Alex just made a clarification on how the Shuffle function works and how to deactivate it.

Edit: now it does not shuffle, I don't know why. Hahah. Always when you want to prove it, it stops. Hahhahahah.

It seems to stay off at least for a while when you turn it off for a list. But it's on by default for all lists and seems to reset back to on if you exit the app and restart/continue the same list. So you either listen your list in shuffle or cry and listen to your list in shuffle.

Also interesting: when turning off shuffle you sometimes lose completely the small window at lower part of the window that shows the song, device and has the pause button. And also the notification on phone to control Spotify is gone. Only way is to force stop and restart the app. Quite harsh punishment for wanting to listen to your list in the order you made...

@esaaho Could you please share with us a video recording of what's happening when you turn off the shuffle mode? Just make sure to hide any sensitive or private info. We'll look into this further.

Because of the latest update that introduced smart shuffle, when I go into my library, select an artist, tap on "Liked Songs", the shuffle icon in the top right defaults to green, so even if I select a song from the list and my playback was not previously set to shuffle, the Spotify app will change my playback to shuffle. This is incredibly annoying, and was not how this worked before. (See photos below for an example)

When I tap the shuffle icon in the top right of the song list view, it turns it off permanently. So when I come back to the same list of liked songs under an Artist, it remembers my preference to have it be NOT shuffled. 
But why make shuffle the default? That is super annoying to have to turn off shuffle for every artist. Please make this fix!

This problem is only for lists of liked songs under Artist profiles. I am not experiencing this default shuffle issue on custom playlists that I create.

I usually listen to liked songs via artist category, and recently I've noticed that shuffle is always on by default - I'm assuming this came with the latest update? I do not want shuffle on, and I also don't want to have to turn it off for every artist that I follow. Is there a way to turn it off by default in the settings?

Hi @aldous!

Could you send over a screenshot / screen recording which shows how the shuffle button looks on your end? Feel free to also mention the troubleshooting done so far so we avoid repeating the steps. If you haven't already, give the reinstall a go so that you're certain you're running the latest version of Spotify.

If possible, try logging in on another device (a friend's or a relative's should do) to see if the issue persists there.

I have deleted and re-installed Spotify, yet the default for all artists and playlists is still shuffle. I have attached screenshots as requested. The first is at the artist level, the next is in Liked Songs - shuffle is on by default.

This is STILL a problem (podcast randomizer). I have premium, I have no options for turning off the randomizer when listening to episodes, I have updated my Spotify, I am currently using the desktop app. Incredible annoying dukring 25 episode podcasts. Please fix and have a nice weekend

• The version of the Spotify app you've installed on your device.
• The operating system of your device.
• Does the issue occur on playlists, albums or both?

I have posted up some screen shots elsewhere. It's happening for me in 'Liked Songs', which I think are treated like playlists?

Version 8.7.30.1342 on an iPhone 8 (I also deleted the app and re-installed it, which did nothing).

Hey folks!

Shuffle should be on by default when you open the app, but this can be changed per playlist. So once you turn off the shuffle option for one playlist, that setting should be saved for that playlist next time. 
We'd like to ask you to confirm if this is the behaviour you're experiencing right now.

Verify if shuffle goes gets auto-turned back on when:

• you search for another artist/playlist/song that you haven't searched before
  
• you remove your cached data/reinstall your app
  
• you listen to anything you've had previously searched for and then come back and check the shuffle status
  

Any feedback would be much appreciated!
