Smart Lock & This Email and Password combination is incorrect

Smart Lock & This Email and Password combination is incorrect

I have been using spotify on my desktop & on my phone (Moto x⁴) for months now without issue, now all of a sudden I seem to have one after another.

I tried to open spotify today on my phone and for some reason it had a blue banner at the bottom that said "Smart Lock Enabled -my email-" and kept refreshing over and over, I don't have smart lock enabled on my phone. I tried turning off auto-sign in, turning off password save, I even tried reinstalling the app, but nothing worked. It simply kept refreshing the Log-In screen.

I tried reinstalling again, however this time, instead of refreshing the Log-In screen, it stated that "this email and password combination is incorrect" I knew that it wasn't, however I reset my passwrd -twice- just to be certain and still it tells me that it is incorrect. I have tried to log in on my web browser as well but it says that the combination is incorrect. I'm at my wits end and have absolutely no idea what is going on.

I too have the exact same problem also on a moto x4. I have done everything suggested on troubleshooting correctly at least 3 times. Including reloading the app resetting the password in private window. The app will pull up account correctly on a Samsung phone. So the problem is between the phone software and Spotify and it needs to be fixed but cannot find any help through Spotify non existent customer service. Very frustrating...

Hey guys,

Thanks for reaching out.

Have you tried logging yourselves in your account page in an Incognito Window?

If it doesn't work, try submitting for a new reset link and, without clicking the link, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your password reset email.
  2. Right-click the Reset password link and select Copy link address.
Note: If you accidentally click the link before you do this, you’ll have to send for a new one.
  3. Go to your web browser and open a private/incognito window.
  4. Paste the link into the address bar.
  5. Press Enter and continue.

Let us know how it goes!

Log in to your Spotify account using the web browser on your device. After you've logged in, wait for the notification from Google which says that Google updates the credential that you've just typed in the browser for Spotify. After confirming the updates, go back to the app, and this time the Google smart lock will use the updated credential.
