Spotify Android mouse problem

Solved!

Spotify Android mouse problem

Hello,

I am using a wireless mouse that is connected to my tablet(Car GPS Navigation on Kitkat). When I start spotify and play music for a while, the mouse clicks stop working. The Mouse pointer is still working normal but the the unit does not react on mouse clicks anymore. This occures only if spotify app was startet some time ago. Closing the app, even in the settings/apps does not help.

Only a complete restart of the tablet resolves the issue.

Besides this, since the last updates(in February I think, where the playlist homescreen changed) spotify needs a lot more time to start, especially the player bar at the bottom. Is there a possibilty to get the old apk back where my own playlists are shown at the top of the start screen?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi Daniel,

I think I've found a solution that I've read in the ubuntu section of this forum. Just want to write it down here for future reference.

What I did:

-cleared the cache of spotify under Settings/apps

-created a file named "pref" in /android/data/com.spotify.music/files/Users/[yourspotifyusername]/

with the following content:

ui.track_notifications_enabled=false

-close spotify in /settings/app

-restart spotify

Since then I got no mouse issues any more 🙂

On my cusptech device the pref file was not present at all, so I created it.

On my mobile phone however, it was already there under /android/data/com.spotify.music/files/ with data in it. So may be the location varies from device to another.

Hope this helps anyone who is searching for a solution to the same problem.

Does the mouse issue happen only when using the Sotify app or does it also affect other applications on your device?

In regards to older apk's, have a look in my signature.

Hey Daniel,
thanks for your help, I was editing my post when you replied.
The mouse problem affects all apps(even the launcher) when the problem occures.
Many thanks for the version history link!

OK, so not a Spotfy app issue but I'm still hapy to help see if we can find a solution... Can I ask what the device you are connecting to is? What mouse are you using and does this utilise a dedicated app on the tablet?

Actually it is a spotify issue, cause the problem occurs only when spotify was started. When I restart the Android unit and start any other apps( google maps, chrome, other music apps, etc) there is no problem at all with the mouse. As soon as I start spotify and start playing music, the mouse clicks does not work anymore after a while in any app, system wide.

The device is an Android Navigation device with Omnirom Kitkat 4.4.2 from cusptech.com designed to fit in cars like original GPS units.

I will try to reproduce it on a more popular device (z1 compact and Moto G).

The mouse itself is a wireless trackball from Kensington named orbit that I use in my car and it helps me a lot instead of using the touchscreen.  There is no dedicated app for the mouse, just plug and play.

How are you streaming the music to your car? I suspect it's some conflict between the use of bluetooth a2dp for Spotify and Bluetooth for your mouse. I assume you are rooted, could you try disabling the Bluetooth services in the Spotify app using the 'disable service' app from the play store. Then try connecting the device via aux to your stereo.

Hi Daniel,

I think I did not explain the whole system very well. There is no streaming/bluetooth involved here.
The cusptech device is a complete android system based on omnirom kitkat 4.4.2 that has access to the internet over wifi through a mifi router that is installed in the car. It is directly connected to the eight speakers of the car. Spotifiy itself is installed as an app on that device so the music directly comes out from the app to the speakers. There is no a2dp streaming nor bluetooth involved in the sound chain. The wireless Kensington trackball uses a usb wireless(RF 2,4Ghz) dongle that is plugged directly into one USB connector of the cusptech device.
I will play a little bit with the "disable service" app, it sounds very handy. May be I can find some solution with it.
Btw. I found in other forum some similar issues with mouse clicks+spotify but with ubuntu:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/Spotify-Linux-Preview-hijacks-mouse-clic...

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/BUG-Spotify-catches-all-mouse-clicks/td-...

The solutions are not portable to android I think.

Android is based on linux so it is possible. Unfortunately I don't have any of the hardware you use to be able to try and test myself... can I recommend possibly seeing if anyone in the xda forums can help as they would be more technically capable.
