Spotify app no longer connects

Over the last week or so, my Spotify for Android app has become pretty much unusable.  It no longer reliably reaches the Home or Browse tabs, it just gives a nondescript error that "something went wrong."

For a couple of days I could fix it by restarting my phone or turning off Bluetooth (for some reason) but nothing seems to help anymore.

It still connects to the internet; I can still stream undownloaded music from my library.  But for some reason I can't reach artist pages or use the Search bar, and trying to open menus gives the message "go online to see menu."

Help?

The performance of my app has now deteriorated to the point that, while connected to the internet, I can't even access the tracks that I already downloaded.
