Spotify app stops playing when screen off

Spotify app stops playing when screen off

Android phone, has all updates

The app closes when I turn my screen off (plays for a few second before stopping).

I've seen the other discussions on this topic and tried the solutions (disabling battery optimization, allowing background activity, uninstalling). The only thing that works is clearing all data - for the first time I open the app. When I open it a second time, the problem starts again and then stops when I clear data again. This is a new problem that started today, did not have an update or anything so I don't know why it is doing it now.

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

 

In this case, since you mentioned you reinstalled the app, could you confirm if you followed the steps in this article to do it? This is a bit different than a normal reinstallation, as it involves clearing all Spotify app data and cache from your devices.

 

It that doesn't do the trick, you can also make sure that the Background App Refresh is activated from your phone's settings. Some Android phones restrict background activity depending on the settings you might set for the app, so we recommend checking those in your phone's app management as well.

 

You can also check your lock screen settings; it's possible they're not set to allow apps working after locking the screen.

 

Lastly, if the inconvenience persists after trying the above, would you mind sending us the make/model and OS of the affected device along with the exact Spotify version you have running?

The spotify version is 8.7.76.359. The phone is a Huawei Nova 3 PAR-LX1 with Android version 9.

Thanks for the info you shared and apologies that it took us some time to reply.

 

Are you using an SD card on your phone, and if you do can you check it for errors?
 

It would also be worth a shot to take the card out and play music without it in, to see if the pausing persists.

If the issue continues, feel free to reach out to our Customer Support team through one of the channels here. They should be able to check if you have a corrupted devices that might be causing this behavior and remove them.
