Spotify app used to freeze and shutter the screen possibly lead to purple vertical lines

My Question or Issue

Have been using Spotify for Android TV for sometime now and have noticed that the app occasionally shutters my TV's screen and freezes after a couple of songs, I just ignored the issue and continued using the app. Yesterday I had the app running for few hours and was away from the TV and was shocked while I returned back. The whole display of the television had vertical purple lines, restarting din't help and now the whole display has gone for a toss. My guess is that the application (with frequent shuttering/flickering) has made the TV's display to malfunction.

Please note that I have a PlayStation 4, DTH service and other AndroidTV apps in the TV and shuttering/flickering never happens whatsover. The TV is also connected to a Belkin surge protector so any electricity over-voltage could be ruled out.
