Android 4.4.2, LG G2, latest Spotify. According to Android System Info, Spotify is always running. If I kill it, it is immediately relaunched. At 10 AM, Spotify has caused network traffic worth 3 MB (My Data Manager). I can also see packets flowing to and from sto3-accesspoint-a42.sto3.spotify.com with tcpdump on my router. I believe Spotify is one of the main reasons to excessive battery drain on my phone. If this goes on, I will have to terminate my Spotify Premium account.
Please read the guide linked below for details on getting a completely clean install of the Spotify app. This should be the first step and can help resolve issues such as:
- Black screen on startup
- Offline data not storing on SD card
- Random crashes or FC's
- Track degradation or skipping
- Playlists and tracks no longer available
[GUIDE] First step of troubleshooting - Clean Install
If you want to really reduce traffic you should also disable notifications from the settings screen.
Thanks. I have disabled notifications and everything else I thought might be causing network traffic. Still, Spotify is calling home every 1...3 minutes. 😞
I did clean install and as soon as I ran Spotify for the first time, it started talking to spotify.com and it won't stop. I switched it to offline mode, no help:

This goes on and on. Almost 1 MB of data had been transferred in one hour. And I can't kill Spotify - it is always relaunched if I do.
Hi, this is odd. I'm not sure what's happening. I recommend you contact Spotify Support using the form here.
You will get an automated reply at first, however if you need to chase them just reply to the email as it does get monitored.
If you're rooted you could use DroidWall which acts as a firewall for your phone and can block such traffic.
Thanks for the pointer, I sent my problem report to Spotify.
