Spotify connect stops working completely when skipping songs

I own an Onkyo TX-RZ900 receiver that has integrated Spotify Connect support. This allows me to connect my Android devices(Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet, Galaxy Note 5 phone, Galaxy Note 4 phone and others) via the Spotify app on these devices and control playback to the receiver from the app on whichever device I am using. There is a bug that has been around for a very long time that I'd love to see fixed. This bug also manifested itself on my previous receiver, an Onkyo TX-NR626.

 

What happens is that sometimes when skipping songs, sometimes as few as two in a row, the receiver will stop responding to input from the app, the songs will not play and skipping back and forth has no effect. Unplugging it from the wall or powering it off will fix the issue.
