Spotify for Android launches and runs with web player

Since the web player update I got earlier today, every time I use the web player, my phone player automatically launches as well.  What is going on with this?  Is there a way to turn it off?  I lost 10% of my phone's battery in an hour during which I was not using it strictly due to spotify useage, even though I was listening to spotify on my computer.  I really don't see the benefit in requiring this feature to be enabled, since I don't use my phone to control spotify on my computer while listening on my computer because I'm sitting at my computer actively using it in that scenario.  If anyone knows how to turn off the feature, please explain.
