Why does Spotify take up so much space?

I clear data and my cache, then within a few hours of listening my storage numbers are approaching 400mb. How is Spotify storing song data that balloons the app so badly, easily bumping storage needs to 2 gigs+. Any way to stop this storage hogging?

Now I can't add songs to playlists

In my android app for a couple of days when I "Add to playlist" it does nothing. It does not even ask me what playlist I want to add the song to. My existing playlists are there. Can use them. But can't add new songs. I need help! Thanks!
