Spotify free not working on android

I am new to Spotify, and I'd like to give it a go for free for a bit with add, before deciding if streaming is for me and maybe going premium.

But I get no shuffle playlist button, all I get is the upgrade to premium popup, all I want is to listen with ads.

Occasionally the shuffle button will appear at random, but I get no add and its stops after about 3 songs... Then back to square one

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi there, the free version on mobile doesn't give ads, instead you should just see the big green 'Shuffle' button at the top of a playlist.

If you are new to Spotify you may actually also be on a free trial pf premium.

I get the shuffle button only once every couple if days at random... Sometimes it appears for about 2 seconds then disappears.

I've checked my subscription in my account details and it says Spotify free, so I'm not on the free trial.

I guess I might just have to give up on streaming and continue buying my music...

How about a clean install?

I've tried a clean install, I've cleared all data and cache, still no joy...

The message at the top of the pop up is "you've reached the monthly free time limit" as far as I was aware the monthly time limit no longer applied to free accounts.

Its all very frustrating!

What version of the Spotify app are you using? Are you installing from the play store or from a sideloaded apk?

Installed from google play, version 2.2.0.636

I recommend you contact Spotify Support using the form here.

You will get an automated reply at first, however if you need to chase them just reply to the email as it does get monitored.

I believe I may have it cracked, my friend put a custom ROM on my nexus 6 and the app my not be seeing the device as a phone or tablet, or anything for that matter, I shall update the ROM to the newest version and see if that solves the issue.

I'll update this thread with an answer if that is the cause.

I'll also put Spotify onto my iPhone and see if that works with my login, as a process of elimination.

I wouldn't have thought that would make a difference, as long as the build.prop is correctly identifying your device as a Nexus 6 you should be OK. But definitely worth keeping abreast of updates to custom ROMS if you are running one as they are constantly being updated.

Turns out I'll have to contact support like you kindly suggested, i installed a completely new ROM and still no change...

However it works perfectly on my iPhone, so something is up.
