I've had no issues with spotify on this phone/car combination for well over a year. I generally use the AAwireless dongle to enable wireless android issue through this same time period, again, no issues.
About a week ago i started having issues where if i skipped a song, or went back a song the spotify display on my car dash would show the song still play as the seconds ticked up and the progress bar continued to move but i had not audio. forcing the app to stop and restarting it got audio back but it would often disappear again when the next song came up.
Now I can't get audio from forcing stopping. Occasionally if i clear the cache and reboot my phone I can get a song to start playing but the audio will generally stop again. If i pause then hit play I get less than one second of the song and it dissapears again.
The rest of my android auto functionality works without issue. Pandora plays audio through android auto no problem.
I've tried clearing spotify cache and storage, uninstalling and reinstalling the spotify app, rebooting my phone more times than I can count, turning various spotify app setting on and off. I've plugged my phone into the car directly with a USB cable and letting android auto initialize that way and the same issues persist.
I'm not sure but it possibly seems like spotify is trying to play through my car via bluetooth instead of through android auto, but I don't know if that actually has anything to do with it.
Recently android did update to 14, and spotify has had updates including one i grabbed this morning that I was hopeful would fix the issue but no luck. Very frustrating and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I am having this same problem. It started a few days ago, maybe a week. It happens between songs. When a song ends, or if I hit skip to play the next song, about half the time there is no audio but the song clock keeps going and the progress bar. If I hit pause and then unpause, then the audio comes through.
I am also having a weird issue with another app, Libby (library app for audio books). I'm listening to language Lessons on audio book format, and parts of the dialog just are not heard. It started happening at the same time as this spotify problem.
Forgot to add: 2022 Ford Mach E, Samsung Note 8. Android 9. Everything was working perfectly until last week.
i did another clean install with the steps outlined here on this forum, got a few songs playing in my car than the issue returned. tried connecting my phone directly to the home receiver via bluetooth to test it out and it worked ok for a couple songs then i could only get audio back by closing the app and restarting it.
looks like its a more widespread issue based on the number of people i found reporting the same problems after updating to android 14 on an android auto google thread.
hopefully an update with a fix will roll out soon.
Where is this thread? I'm curious if the libby problem I'm having is related to what I'm seeing with spotify. My phone is older, android 9 is my OS. Both Apps were fine with AA until a week ago.
hmm, well if you are on android 9 and didn't update, it looks like it is more likely to be a spotify issue than a google issue. here's the google support thread i mentioned:
its a trending topic on the google android auto community, but spotify or even a mod hasn't acknowledged the issue.
not sure why this got combined with this old thread, its not the same issue and my head unit is a factory unit, not an aftermarket android unit.
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting about this in the Community.
Can you please let us know the exact versions of the Spotify app on your head unit and phone? Are you using a wired or a wireless connection?
A short video of the issue would also be really helpful. You can attach it here or upload it via Google Drive or YouTube.
Thanks!

Hi there folks,
Thanks for keeping us updated on this.
@Hendasto, could you send the info we asked for? Additionally, @triplehelix-, and @soci0pathic, could you confirm the current version of the Spotify app you have installed? We understand you've previously sent that info. However, it was a while ago, and you probably have an updated version.
