My Question or Issue

I have local mp3 files on my desktop.  I have Spotify playlists on my desktop that include these mp3's.  Switching over to my Android, in the Spotify app I downloaded the playlist for a road trip.  At the end of the trip, I turned off the download toggle on that playlist. I verified that the local tracks are now greyed out on my Spotify playlist. Next, while still in the Spotify app, I navigated to my profile>storage and deleted all downloads and cleared my cache.  Next, I exited Spotify and on my Android device I navigated over to my settings>storage.  In storage, I see the mp3 file remained on my phone storage.  This is wrong.  Spotify should delete the file but doesn't.  My phone is filling to capacity due to this feature.  I hope you agree with my assessment and can modify this feature to delete the files upon toggling off the download button on the playlist. Thanks.

Hi @meadowcroftt!

Note that the app also uses your device's memory to store parts of music and podcasts as cache, so it can play without lagging. Still, that's a valid point, thanks for sharing it here! We're always looking for opportunities to enhance the user experience for everyone, so your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I recommend making sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.

As for the synced local files, they should be located in your phone's storage > Music > Spotify > Synced Files in case you want to remove them.

The Community is here if there's anything else you need assistance with.

Cheers 🤘

Hi Yordan, thank you for your reply.  Your suggestion that the user manually clean their storage to remove unwanted Spotify temporary mp3 files is a good one.  I was just shocked when I first saw 30 GB of temporary Spotify mp3 files that had been accumulating behind the scenes on my phone for a period of time without my knowledge.  It's apparent that at some point Spotify does clean these files: all the files were 6 months old or less.
