Spotify started playing music when I was listening to Play Music

So, before I went out, I was listening to Neil Young Unplugged album on spotify. I quit spotify before going out for a walk. While out, I started listening to Floyd's Wish you were here on Play Music. At a certain point, spotify took over audio focus and started playing the Neil Young album.

The spotify app did not show in "Recent apps" but it was in the notifiation shade and I managed to stop it from there and go back to Floyd.

It seems that the issue reported in this thread and once fixed, has come back.

As much as I love the Spotify Ux, I've had enough of the constant, and often reintroduced bugs, the lack of professional support (cut and pasting random solutions all of which start with "reinstall" just doesn't work) so I'm considering cancelling my subscription and abandoning ship.

I'm prepared to try troubleshooting this issue but will get snarky at any suggestion to reinstall spotify.
