Spotify stops playing after ad, recovery not possible

Spotify stops playing after ad, recovery not possible

For a few weeks now, Spotify on Android stops when an ad comes on. Clicking on the ad doesn't help, neither does closing or force closing Spotify. Trying to play (shuffle play as I am not on premium) literally any playlist or genre or song will result in "you've discovered a premium feature." back button, choosing a different list or album or whatever, closing/force closing the app all does nothing. The ad will be on the screen, bht won't play (sometimes it says the duration of the ad, like 0:14, but a lot of the time it'll say 0:00 too), and you can't get rid of it. Today I've been sitting here for about 20 minutes non stop trying to get my Spotify to work. It's getting a little ridiculous.

Hey @izzzy!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Give it a try reinstalling the app and see if you're still experiencing the same issue. Here's how.

Keep us posted.

This actually happened to me too when I was using free version. Normally restarting the app or changing the playlist fixed it. Also clearing data from the app now and then helped to prevent this (at least on android)

Hi there @Smb77,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Can you reinstall the app by following the steps that's provided in this article? There's some more steps to help thoroughly uninstall the app from your phone so if you haven't, we'd highly suggest it since the steps will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If that doesn't do the trick and you have an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app since the card can be corrupted.

Keep us posted,

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Hi Jeremy,

I have tried both the link and loading it without the SD card. Still, after the ads on the JRE podcast it pauses and can't be restarted (even though you can press the play button and it switches, it doesn't play). I have to restart the app in order to continue listening.

Have you tried it yourself? I can't imagine I am the only one with this issue. It is the Samsun Galaxy A50.

I hope we can find a solution for this. Thank you.

Hey @Smb77

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Just to confirm, is this happening only when connected to a certain Internet connection? If possible, we'd suggest connecting to a different network (for example, if this is happening when you're connected to 3G/4G, try switching to a WiFi connection).

If it works with another connection, it’d be a good idea troubleshooting further the original one (for example, by restarting your router). You can also reach out to the service provider of the original network so that they can take a look on their end as well.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Tried this on wifi and regular network, did not work. Please help! Thank
you

Hey @Smb77

Thanks for getting back to us.

Next thing you can check is if some kind of power optimization settings or data cleaning apps run active on your mobile device. Such features can often prevent the app from operating at full capacity and you might need to disable them. We also suggest accessing the app settings and making sure all Permissions are enabled for Spotify.

It's also helpful to check how it goes when a different Spotify account gets logged in on your device to see if this could be an account-related issue. Just ask a friend or family member to log in to their own Spotify account on your device, or simply create a test account for this purpose.

If it works with another account, you can follow the steps in this Spotify Answer next.

Keep us posted! We'll be happy to lend a hand if you need more help.

Still not working. Edited all permissions, created a new account, erased and reinstalled everything, tried wifi on and off, made sure nothing was running in the background. Interested to see what your next solution is.

Hey @Smb77

Thanks for sharing the good news!

We're glad to hear that things are now working properly for you. Give us a shout if you experience this again - we're always here to help.

Еnjoy your music!

Hi sorry it was a premature response. It did NOT work. I tried creating a
new account and that didn't with either! Like I said it was working fine a
month ago. Looks like it is working on my desktop computer. Just not the android phone. Hope we can figure this out.

Hey @Smb77

Thanks for keeping us posted.

If you still observe the issue after trying out the steps so far it's worth checking if this might be related to the specific setup of your Android device.

What you can try next is logging in to your Spotify account on another Android phone just to check if you notice the same. If it doesn't occur on a different device, we'd suggest making sure that the original device is up-to-speed with any software updates, or contacting the manufacturer for more info.

We'll look out for your reply.

Everything is up to date. Still doesn't work. It only happens with the ads
- everything else works fine. Please advise.

Hey @Smb77

No worries, we won't give up that quickly.

If possible, try how it goes on another mobile phone and let us know the outcome. Also, make sure to provide us with the make and model of your mobile device, the version of the OS installed on it, as well as the exact Spotify version running on the affected device.

It'll be useful if you could confirm if this occurs after every ad and only when listening to the JRE podcast. Also, let us know if you're using some kind of ad blocker app on your device.

Keep us in the loop here.
