Spotify thinks it's offline after a few seconds and restarts

Hello,

I got the latest Spotify App on a unrooted Nexus 5 (Android 4.4.2). Since the new update, after a few (random) seconds Spotify thinks it is offline and restarts (registration screen shows up for a short time, about 1 second, then the UI resets). Of course I am not offline, I got rock solid internet connectivity and it happens on both 3G/4G and Wifi. 

I already uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify, cleared cache and data, logged in anew trying both Facebook and Spotify credentials, no change. Please help.

There are several reports of strange behavior with the latest application. It's been escalated as an issue so hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.
