Spotify will not play through my VW Passat Bluetooth on my Android Samsung Note 8

I have had no problems with my previous handest (iphone 6 plus) working in conjunction with the car bluetooth. But my new Samsung Note 8 WILL not play spotify when it is connected via bluetooth.

1. I have installed the 'Connect' app to try and play through android auto - Doesn't work

2. I have un-installed/reinstalled spotify - Doesn't work

3. I have unpaired both devices and reconfigured the bluetooth pairing - Doesnt work

I have even gone through the settings to switch audio to 'on' but the slider switches straight back to 'off'

The bluetooth voice works absolutely fine, so I can send and recieve calls through my in car multimedia, but for some reason it really does not like android!

Any suggestions? I'm losing the will..

Could you check if, in the bluetooth-configuration on your phone, in the car-kit configuration, the option "Media-audio" is tagged "on"?

Yes, I had checked that initially but when you move the slider to on it automatically turns itself back off.

have you checked for a bluetooth update, i remember from my last Passat that there was a bluetooth update for the navigation unit.

Do I need to do that through the car? I think I looked for an option to update but couldn't find anything. Futhermore, I have been led to believe that I need to visit a dealership to update the system?

Depends on the age of your Passat. For discover navigation systems, you can download bluetooth and card updates through the VW website. For RNS and MFD systems you need to buy (or download) a DVD which contains all updates. For other models you need a dealership.
