Spotify won't save to SD card whatever I try.

Spotify won't save to SD card whatever I try.

Hi,

I've been trying to get Spotify to save my downloaded music to the external storage for weeks now. I've followed the Q&A, the suggestions on the forums and whatever Google threw at me, for example:

- I made sure my external storage is way larger than internal, both in terms of free and of total storage (125 of 128 GB external vs 16 of 28 GB internal storage free)

- I cleared the cache and all files, then proceeded to uninstall the app itself

- I manually deleted all spotify-related folders and files from the phone

- I reinstalled Spotify and set the download quality to "extreme" before locally saving any music

- Yes, I rebooted between un- and reinstalling.

- I tried a different SD card

- I even performed a factory reset of the entire phone

Details: Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime, Android 5.0.2 with MIUI 7 Global 5.12.1

I don't have the faintest idea what else I could try. This is kind of a dealbreaker, but it's the only major peeve I have with Spotify.

Is there anything I have missed? Can anyone think of yet another workaround?

And: Why can't we just have a simple "Choose path" option like virtually every other app relying on local media storage? 😕

Thanks for your suggestions.

Try filling your internal memory.

The method below worked for me with identical set up to you (Android 5, empty 128Gb SD).

Process:

1. Do the uninstall, delete cache and manual verification/deletion of folder called com.spotify.music (may be called com.spotify.mobile.android.ui on some versions) from Internal Storage > Android > Data .

2. Bloat your internal memory to have only 1Gb remaining free. Fastest/easiest is to transfer big photo or film files via USB cable from PC.

3. Now reinstall Spotify app and download some music.

Once you are certain that the music is going to SD, you can delete the bloat files. Spotify will continue to us SD. The key is to convince the app that SD is the only viable large memory at point of install.

well..... eventually spotify is going back to the internal memory and last time even forget about what was saved on the SD card.... Grrrrrrrrr
