Starts by itself and streams data over mobile network

Starts by itself and streams data over mobile network

Account: Premium Family

Phone: Sony Z2

Every now and then when I’m picking up my phone I notice that Spotify has started by itself and is streaming music over the mobile network although the ‘”download via mobile network” setting is turned off. Very, very annoying…

Why does it start by itself?

Why does it download via mobile network although it shouldn’t according to the settings?

Hi Fred,

When you say it is streaming automatically, do you mean downloading the song to make it an offline song?

If you haven't previously downloaded the song, it will always play the song using cellular data.

If the "use cellular data for download" is toggled off, it won't try to download the songs and will just have a grey tick next to the songs. Once the device hits wifi, it should download them.

Thanks for the answer. Well, maybe streaming is the wrong word. All I know is that it uses up a lot of data. I can tell by looking at the cellular data usage in the Android settings. The last two days it has used up 130 MB. And when I say that it starts by itself, I mean that the app is suddenly running and showing some song from recently played songs, but there's no sound and thus the song isn't actually playing. Confusing...

Very unusual. That 130mb may be the songs being cached. I would talk to Spotify help and see if they have an answer for it.

The app staying open isn't unusual, sometimes that app can stay open in the background and when your phone is locked, it will display the latest track on the front of the phone. Maybe try reinstalling it or looking to see if there is an update as this may fix any little bugs
