Streaming local files?

Streaming local files?

So I was trying trying to find some songs of mine in Spotify and found out they were either : geo-restricted or just wasn't available. Trying to move away from storing my music file in my phone like the old days, I searched around and found out that Spotify had a function to play your own songs!

After converting my songs, uploading them and then create my sync playlist, I was dumbfounded that it couldn't play my songs. So trying out some solutions online, I found out I had to actually save them for offline listening (aka save the songs on your phone), of which I ask :

What's the point?

I thought the whole point of this function was to avoid the users from storing music in their phone and use a cloud storage to stream, something I think Google Music is able to do. So why can't Spotify do the same? Is there actually a way for me to stream my local music instead of having them downloaded like normal?
