Surround Sound Glitch - Nexus 5

There is a glitch with the 'Surround Sound' equlizer setting on the Nexus 5.

When I enable it I'm getting a lot of background noise, which sounds like static i.e. harsh pop and crackle.

This only occurs when the surround sound setting is enabled and makes all music unlistenable.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a work around or fix?
