My Question or Issue
Trying to find a way to disable lyrics while playing music. I don't mind using data to stream music, but I don't want to waste it on lyrics I'm not reading while at work.
Hey there @Mist3r_d_,
Thanks for reaching out - we’re here to help!
We’re often testing and launching improvements and new features. This means you might see something on the app your friend doesn’t, or get a new feature to try temporarily.
We suggest you check this help article for more info about test features.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Spotify, olease add a settings option to turn off lyrics display!
Hi there folks,
Thank you for your replies and feedback.
We understand that things can feel frustrating when things don't work as you'd like them to. Rest assured that we're always trying to improve as we always strive to improve our features.
If you think this suggestion will appeal to other users you can always create an idea on the relevant idea board.
We hope for your understanding and that you continue using Spotify and find it gets better in the future.
Once again - thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it. Let us know if we can help you with anything else.
Take care!
Agreed, this needs to be totally optional, and it can't be that difficult to implement a toggle setting. It's distracting. What's more, there's been a huge increase of lyric additions to songs of late, even INSTRUMENTAL songs (really??). Not to mention, some of these songs have the lyrics WRONG (I don't know what Spotify is using as a source, but I'll be happy to provide examples, if asked). Yeah okay, I don't have to look at it if I don't want to...but at the same time, it shouldn't HAVE to be there, either.
I want to turn off lyrics pull up so bad. Why force lyrics on us? Just make an opt out toggle already. Side note. Bring back the old shuffle multiple playlists at once function..
Is there any news on this topic, I find it highly frustrating to swipe trough my music nowadays.
It feels like a hit or miss, am I getting the next song or do I scroll through lyrics instead!
It is nice to have lyrics available, but make it optional.
I don't want to sound too entitled but as a premium user I would like to have control over which features I want enabled.
Hey @Tiburan,
Thanks for the post.
Spotify constantly strives to improve the user experience with its features and the easiest way to achieve this is by regular app updates. That’s why we appreciate you taking the time to share your suggestions with the Community.
If you think other users might also like it, go ahead and create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.
We also suggest checking this help article for useful tips on how to submit an idea. As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.
So can you PLEASE improve our user experience by adding an option to ACTIVATE this lyric thing (meaning that it should be DEACTIVE by default).
Hi folks,
Thanks for your inputs so far.
We'd just like to mention that someone already has summitted an idea about this here, so if you haven't already, make sure to check it out and +VOTE for it. You can also Subscribe to the thread so won't miss out on any future updates.
Cheers!
Please make an option to turn off lyrics pull up in Android. They are invasive
I absolutely agree. I can't believe all the decision makers at Spotify thought that having the lyrics on all the time was a good idea. It's great to have the lyrics, but why would you have them on all the time, using up data when you don't need the lyrics or don't want them on?
It's May 2022 and they still haven't addressed it. It's ridiculous. They don't give a damn.
Ivan, come on now, it's 2022. The first post was 2020, and you still haven't managed to give us a toggle switch to turn this feature off. Surely everyone at Spotify doesn't expect us to be reading lyrics all the time we are playing music? What happens once we have learnt the lyrics? You don't need them anymore. I really don't understand the mentality of introducing these things without the ability to switch them off. It's great to have the lyrics but they're using up your customers data when your customers can't use the function (when we are working etc).
I know people don't like change, and when you introduce something new that you've invested time and money into, you want people to use it but this lyric function is surely never intended to be on all the time. Who needs lyrics all the time?
It's time to be a responsible company and care about your customers and give us a toggle switch.
Put your phone in airplane mode. Then open the app. Audible does this as well. They want you to open their front page so they can advertise at you, but they’re not getting it either.
fyi it’s AI that tries to decipher the lyrics

The fact that explicit lyrics come through the text even when explicit lyrics are turned off is a huge problem. I've had my son's account set to eliminate explicit lyrics, he's just been reading them this whole time instead. Which is worse. wth
Can we get a function where we can turn off lyrics. When explicit content is disabled, explicit lyrics are still shown! Total nonsense. Please fix.
