Unable to sync Andrdoid with Spotify

The instructions online simply say to click on the computer desktop icon for the phone. Nothing happens. Does anyone have a suggestion? Spotify certainly doesn't have anything of assistance, and therefore will be receiving a cancellation in the not too far distant future.
