My Question or Issue
When trying to play videos in Spotify on my Android TV, the video is really slow, choppy, and flickers to black continuously. I have restarted the TV as well as uninstalled and reinstalled the Spotify app.
Anyway to resolve this?
Hey there @Thinspirit,
Thanks for the post!
Here is what you can try:
Keep us posted on how you get on.
This has not resolved the issue. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the Spotify app. My TV software is fully updated. The internet connection is fast with no issues.
I have another identical TV that it works totally fine on. There are no issues with the video.
Hi there @Thinspirit,
Thanks for getting back in touch.
Just to confirm, are you experiencing this issue with other streaming apps as well or only with Spotify?
Also, would you mind letting us know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update either of Spotify or the firmware of your TV?
Lastly, sending us a video of the issue happening would come in handy.
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
No other applications are having streaming issues.
Turns out the other tv that was working fine recently updated it's software and it started having the same flickering issue.
It appears the most recent update of Android TV is what has caused this issue.
I am having the same issue on a TCL Android TV. Started about a month ago. No updates that I am aware of.
Hi there folks!
Thanks for your replies.
We'd recommend logging out from your account > unplugging your TV from power for a couple of minutes > logging back in.
If this doesn't do the trick, could you check if the issue persists when streaming from another device via Connect?
Keep us in the loop.
Same issue here.
I'm on a MiBox S, updated Android, Spotify App v 1.49.0 (cache cleared, uninstalled, reinstalled).
The Spotify App is the OLNY app with issues! All other streaming apps are running smoothly, YouTube, Netflix, Prime, RedBullTV, Curiosity Stream, and others. No issues at all.
The video keeps flickering A LOT! It'll give someone a seizure, it's almost impossible to watch! It happens with every video I tested on Spotify.
Tried the solution.
The video played fine when *not* logged in on the tv and casting through the Google cast method with Spotify Connect. The moment I get logged in on the TV and it pairs, the video starts flickering again.
Also when I try to open up a video directly on the TV and not using Spotify connect, it also flickers.
Clearly it is something wrong with the Spotify app and began after the most recent Android TV update. I have logged out and rebooted in every single combination possible.
Just patch it and fix the app already.
Hey folks!
Thanks for writing on the Community about this.
If this behavior started after an update to your Android TVs, then this is most probably is outside of Spotify's control to patch.
It is best to inform your Android TV manufacturer that the latest update that was pushed to the TV models has introduced a certain incompatibility with the Spotify app.
We will keep updating the Android TV app on our end with general fixes and stability improvements, but can't promise that this specific issue will be addressed, since, as we mentioned, it sounds dependent on the recently pushed TV update, which we have no control over.
Hope this info helps. Keep us in the loop.
Typical, refer us back to the manufacturer when you can't figure out how to fix your own app.
Hi
it's been a year since this issue was logged.
Has it been solved? is there a solution?
I'm having the same issue, flickering like crazy.
Internet ok
latest firmware on tv
latest version of spotify app
Same issue. Mi Box S and other Mi box from previous generation
Hi. I have the same brand TV and same problem. I found this post while looking for a solution. Since I found one that fixed the issue well enough for me and no one has posted it. I thought I had better share.
I found that it was necessary to uninstall it from my TV and then install it on my phone and cast it to my TCL. This fixed the black blinking for me which made using Spotify video on my tv Impossible.
Hope this helps.

Hey
You wanna make sure you uninstall it from your tv before you cast or the problem will continue
