The most recent Spotify update broke video podcasts on a lot of devices. We are eagerly awaiting an update.
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info. Would you mind sharing with us the make/model, and OS of the devices on which you notice said behavior and the Spotify version you're running there?
On another note, did you notice if this was happening in more than one podcast? If this is just happening with a specific podcast episode, it'll help us a lot if you share with us the link to it. You can follow these steps to do it.
Lastly, as mentioned already by @liquidnonsense, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event, such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.
Keep us in the loop!
The issue affects all episodes of all video podcasts. For me I noticed the issue about a week ago, simultaneously affecting all devices—the Spotify app on my MacBook Pro (macOS 13.3.1, Spotify 1.2.10.760), on my iPhone 13 (iOS 16.4.1, Spotify version 8.8.28.416), on my Samsung smart TV, and on the in-browser web player at play.spotify.com. On all platforms, no video podcasts can be viewed; they play audio only. Comments on the podcasts' social media pages confirm this seems to be a fairly widespread issue. Let us know when you have an update.
Similarly this happens for me for all podcasts and I am using a Google pixel 4a phone with the latest Android operating system (checked it's all up to date)
Hey folks,
Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.
In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info:
If you sent us part of this info already, no worries; just send us the remaining details.

I'm having the same issue - no video working on any podcast on any device (including web player). I've been on the support chat for nearly two hours trying to sort it out, being passed through one support tech after another. At least I know now I'm not the only one.
Looks like a problem with the sunny podcast, I managed to get other video podcasts to work after logging in with their test account.
Hi @Hybridalienrob,
Thanks for getting in touch about this.
In this case, could you provide us with the info @AlejaR requested previously?
We'll be on the lookout.
I'm having the same issues on my PC. Here's the Details;
I am having the same issue, cannot view the Always Sunny podcast videos.
- Samsung Galaxy S20+, Android 12
- Spotify version 8.8.28.409
- I stream, don't download
Same issue with always sunny podcast:
Google Pixel 5
Android Version 13
Spotify version 8.8.28.409
Streamed, not downladed
Same issue with Always Sunny, both of our accounts, PC and iphone, whether downloaded or not. Other video podcasts seem to work in that account though I've only done a spotcheck. Uninstalled app, logged out / in, restarted phone etc.
IPhone iOS 16.4.1
Spotify 8.8.30.499
I am having the same issue with the Always Sunny video podcast not playing. I tried it on multiple devices and it isn’t working. It’s only playing audio. I thought it might have something to do with my recent upgrade to a Premium subscription but it sounds like others are having the same issues?
Hey folks,
Thanks for getting in touch about this.
Content availability can vary over time for many types of reasons depending on the permissions from rights holders.
We suggest that you keep the app up to date so you don't miss out on any improvements on this.
Hope this clears things up. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
This isn't really an acceptable answer. "It might break at different periods". Please find out why and either let us know the root cause or fix it. Would it be a region based thing?
This isn’t a solution to the problem. Seems like all the people who have commented here are updated to the most recent update and your R&D team needs to research and develop an appropriate solution to the bug
The solution is - use YouTube instead!
Oddly enough, its affecting all Always Sunny Podcasts for me. And the old fix of deleting the saved, watching another video podcast, and coming back, isn't working.
Interestingly enough though, while trying that, I noticed "The Misfits" podcasts video seems to still be working for me, at least they're top episode.
I feel the issue is related to anything we have a watch history of, or following, downloaded, etc.
Also, I'm on Samsung Galaxy S9+, using wifi.
I am having this same issue; for me it appears to be an issue with the Always Sunny podcast specifically (link); I just checked and it seems I can view other video podcasts. I just updated to Spotify version 8.8.32.533, running iOS 16.4.1 (a) on an iPhone 13 Pro.
