What happened to local music?

What happened to local music?

I cant find a way to add any local tracks to my playlists - in the old app  there used to be an item called "local music" which allowed you to browse all local stored music. This seems to be gone now. The beta version didnt have any problems playing local tracks.

How can i add my own music to spotify?

-edit: i am not referring to downlaoded playlists, but MP3 files stored on the phone's (sd) storage.

You can't access local tracks (MP3s on the phone) any more.

Instead you need to create playlists containing your tracks on your PC/Mac and then sync them over.

Yes, it's a pain.

Was this deliberately left out? If so, why on earth??

My guess is that because the new app was written from scratch they rated the features of the old app and this one was deemed less important.

The old 'Library' or 'Local Music' function was a bit limited, but at least you didn't need to switch apps to play different sets of music. Now you do and that's a killer.

Hey thanks for the info, I was shocked in the same way. Is there any way to formally ask for reinclusion of local music? I mean, I have lots of mp3s on my SD card, it would really suck to have to download those files in spotify again. That's really not partifularly helpful. First real disappointment with the software.

😞 Does anyone have a good address to complain to about this?

Well I'm certainly grateful for the link to the old app because without access to my local files I'm not interested. I'll keep an eye on your feature request post.

I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer to reinstate my premium subscription: I personally think it's too expensive for the old app and the new app is still not what I'm looking for. It's a shame.

That's it. No ability to play off-line files without syncing or re-downloading through the app = I'm done with the app = I'm done with my subscription untill this gets reimplimented. If I wanted a phone that tied me one app and one company's way of doing things, I'd drink Apple's Kool-Aid. This is Android. Every other music play I've ever seen let's you chose where it looks for music, then manage your library, sort by song, album, artist, etc., and then play. These are basic functions and I'm floored by the fact that Spotify doesn't have them.

I wish Spotify 0.5.x had local MP3 file support too. It's a royal PITA to have to now use two music players (Spotify and MP3 Music Player) or mark for download Spotify streamed albums I've already got stored locally, wasting storage space nad bandwidth.

Note I don't mean local MP3 sync. I totally dislike how Spotify renames the MP3s to a set of numbers and dumps them all in a single folder (no way I'm using that pile of junk!). Spotifty used to scan my SD card and link MP3s with Spotify music, as the Desktop program still does.
