What's New only shows "friends"

When i go into the Android app and swipe to go into the What's New item i get

Top Playlists among friends

Top tracks among friends

when i initially load the menu briefly a more generic list appears and this list gets populated with my "friends".

I don't want to appear grumpy but none of the music they listen to interests me and i tried to look for a way i could remove "friends" or disable it.

I've now relinked my Spotify to my facebook account although really i would have rather i didn't have to but this doesn't appear to have made a difference.

These friends appear to be from my facebook and even though it's been unlinked for some months (until now) i still get the odd notification of so and so has joined Spotify!

I'd just like to unlink the whole facebook friends thing and just discover music "normally".

If this is possible could someone explain what i've done wrong and how i can fix it? 🙂
