Why are the mentally inept in charge of decision making at Spotify?

When I want to listen to music from a specific artist, I go to the artist page and click the play button. This redirects me to a playlist called "This is (artist)" and that playlist has a few songs spotify picked out for me. I was never asked if I wanted this or if I wanted to hear all of the songs. No sign of an option to disable this. I pay to listen to music and they stop me from doing so.

Spotify didn't pick any songs for you, they are the most popular songs, i.e. the ones that have had the most plays, which may indicate that it's the cream of that artists work.

If you don't want to listen to those songs, then just ignore them and scroll down to the albums. 

In short, I don't really see what your problem is, besides there will be quite a few features that you didn't ask for but got anyway.
