Why won't Spotify let me thumbs down ads anymore?

Why won't Spotify let me thumbs down ads anymore?

It's not like the site DID anything when we thumbs down an ad- I want to get rid of certain organizations and companies that I'll never support and hate hearing about, but now when I try to thumb it down, the thumb icon wiggles but doesn't do anything.

Used to be I could at least tell it why I didn't want the ad (in these cases, offensive.) Now, with both my PC and my Android phone, the function does nothing.

(And no, I absolutely cannot afford to spring for premium.)

Hi there @FalcoSkyWolf,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

Would you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

Now, you mention this happening on more than one device. To rule out if this is account-related, could you try logging in with a different account and check if the behavior is also present there? You can use a relative or friend's account. Or you could create an account for testing purposes and close it later.

Lastly, we understand how important it is to report ads that are not appropriate, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know. If you wish, you can report the ad here along with the requested info. The reports from this thread get passed on to the ads team regularly.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

Here's that video. Took me a while to figure out how.

I don't have any other accounts to try (or friends who would let me try theirs.) Does a test account require a separate email address?

Appreciate the cooperation, @FalcoSkyWolf.

Yes, a test account would require a separate email address as every Spotify account can be linked to only one email. You can create a new account on our website here.

Just to be on the safe side, could you confirm if this happens with multiple different ads and did you notice when this behavior started or if it was after a certain update for example?

In case you haven't done this already I recommend clearing the cache within Spotify as it can cause different performance issues if it's corrupted. You can check out the steps on how to do this on different devices in this article.

Keep us posted.

Thanks, I'll try clearing my cache. And yes, it happens on multiple ads, from multiple companies.

So far clearing the cache hasn't helped on my phone, even after restarting the program.

Hey @FalcoSkyWolf,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

We really appreciate all your help so far. Just to confirm:

  • Does your friend let you use their account to try and replicate this? It'd be really helpful if you tried, since, as mentioned above, this will help us understand if this is account-related.
  • As mentioned by @Ivelina above, does this happen when a specific ad is playing or does it happen no matter what ad you listen to?
  • Please send us the exact Spotify version you're running on your devices.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?

Keep us in the loop!

I understand this was a few months ago, but it is also happening to both my device as well.
