Your phone and your Receiver have to be in the same Network (IP Range)
otherwise they do not work together.
Phone in WLAN Receiver in LAN is not a Problem but must be same Network

@hhrhd - thank you for you quick reply!

Both phone and receiver are connected using the same router under the same WiFi network and subnet... any other thoughts?

TIA!!

According to the Yamaha site:

These models are compatible with Spotify Connect via a firmware update. Click on a model link to begin the download process.

Kind an old thread BUT this drives me nuts, I have Spotify Premium account, Android running Spotify v5.4.858 and Yamaha RX-V673 running latest firmware 1.91, in a different forum there's this guy who claims to use this AV model works well with Spotify Connect, however my mobile app doesn’t find my Yamaha receiver... what is it I’m missing here???

Thank you all in advance!!

Best,

Ram

Can Yamaha AV Controller app find your receiver? If it can't find it either, try to unplug receiver power for a few minutes and then try again.

@poisike

Yes, The Yamaha AV Controller in my phone works fine with my receiver:

Can anyone else have successfully used RX-V673 with Spotify Connect?

RX-V673 does not support Spotify and Your screenshot of the app confirms this, You don't have a Spotify input.

Anyone who claims it works is probably using Airplay.

Bummer 😞

Thank you all for your support!

Hi,

Any news on RX-V673 supporting spotify connect ?

No words to express how disappointed I am with this situation.

The bad news is that connect only works with specific chipsets so I would guess that Yamaha hasn't issued a firmware update as the receiver doesn't have hardware compatibility.

However, there are now several inexpensive ways of adding connect to older systems. I particularly like Fon's Gramafon.

I know this thread is quite old but figured that I would post here rather than create a new one.

I understand that the RX-673 doesnt support Connect, that isnt going to change, however I cannot seem to find anything else that works, either the apps need my phone to be rooted (whatever that means) or well... nothing.

I have my spotify account either on my PC or on a Sony Xperia M series. I have not tried the PC yet but can someone advise how I can play Spotify via my RX673, from a Xperia without having to void my phone warranty.

Thanks

Steve

Get a Chromecast 2. Cheapest option. Plugs into an hdmi port on your amp.

I haven't tried it as I use my ps4.

What I did was using an old mobile phone with a broken screen that I didn't use anymore, installed Spotify on it and connected it through the headphones ear plug to an AV input in the receiver, works great.

if you update the receiver to new firmware and connect it to your Router
witch a LAN cable it works seamless with spotify.

In this case it streams the music directly from spotify, the phone is only
needed to control purposes

I think it has the latest firmware, I have the yamaha app on my phone and is says firmware up to date. When I play music on my phone via spotify it comes out the phone speakers so there is something I am missing here.

Is your receiver conneted to the same Network(same DHCP Server)?

Id have to check that when I am home, but everything is connected via a router, the amp is connected to that router by Ethernet, the phone connects over wireless

673 didn't get that feature.

Next year onwards I think.

other people on the forums have stated that they have connected their spotify to their 673. not by spotify connect but by other methods.

Yes you can use streaming devices like chromcast or firetv either to mirror
your smartphone spotify app to the TV screen (chromcast) . And amplify TV
sound.
Or you use spotify app of the streaming device (firetv and chromcast)
