offline song/track glitch

offline song/track glitch

I am using nexus 5, running Lollipop 5.1.1,  running the latest Spotify app 3.3.0.982.  I save albums and download the tracks for offline play when I have no internet connection. With the new release I have noticed gaps/glitch in play back. The play back is not smooth. There is a noticeable gap sometimes. There is no pattern as to  when this gltich occurs. Please let me know if this is an issue you are aware of. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and it is still happening. Thanks.

Same problem, only using Nexus 5 on Android 6.0. Offline music play (irrespective on download quality) will have gaps between half a second to a whole second. There is no pattern, replay will have gaps at different moments. Gap frequency is about one occurrence every 3 minutes of playback.

Same problem using Nexus 5 w/ Android 6.0.

Gaps from 0.5 secs to 1 second, gap frequency about 1 gap every 3 minutes.

Download quality is no factor. Deleting app and downloading again does not solve this issue.

The problem is with the equlizer

I have exactly the same issue...

I'm running a Nexus 5 - Andriod 6. But I managed to isolate what the problem is! First I tried rienstalling the opperating system and a fresh install of Spotify - to no avail. The issue is with the graphic equalizer...it doesn't actually matter whether you are online or offline.

With the equilizer set to 'on' I'm getting strange popping, glitchy, static / interfearance types of noises. With the equlizer set to 'off' everything is 100% fine.

This issue doesn't occur with any other app I'm running. I have poweramp installed on my phone also, so I tried uninstalling this, but this did not work either.

This is 100% a Spotify issue. Can someone at Spotify please let us know what / when they will be addressing this issue? The noises ruin the music and music without the equlizer settings sounds flat and lifeless.

Does anyone know if there is a 3rd party eqilizer that will work with Spotify?

Can someone at spotify please respond to this post!?

OK, so I think I have managed to isolate the root cause of the background noise issue...and have a possible fix

The problem appears to be directly related to the 'Surround Sound' setting in Spotify's Equaliser.

Try this:

  • Open Spotify
  • Browse to the equaliser (in the settings menu).
  • Create a 'User' Equaliser profile. You can do this by tapping the pull down menu in the top left hand corner of the equalizer page and scrolling to the very bottom. You should see a 'user' option - select it.
  • Adjust the 5 bar equaliser to your preferred taste.

(Below the 5 bar equaliser, you will see a 'Bass Boost' slider & a 'Surround Sound' slider. On my Spotify setup the Bass Booster is greyed out, yours maybe different).

  • Set the 'Surround Sound' option to zero. To do this, slide it to the far left-hand side. Doing this seems to completely remove all of the background noise / static like sounds that I & other users have been experiencing.
  • Play an online and/or offline track and see if this helps.
  • If you are still getting some background noise, go back into the 'user' equaliser and if your bass boost is not greyed out, try setting that to zero (far left) also.

I’m not 100% sure why this fix works, it could either be:

  1. There is a glitch with the surround sound software in Spotify.
  2. The amplifier hardware / firmware on the Nexus 5 has a compatibility issue with the ‘Surround Sound’ setting in Spotify
  3. There is a conflict with other installed media players (I have Power Amp & VLC media Player installed).

I would be interested to see if this fix works for anyone else!? And it would also be great to hear back from Spotify regarding this matter.
