"Waiting to download." Local Files

"Waiting to download." Local Files

Hello, I have a handful of music that isn't available on Spotify that I want to import into my device for listening without having to download a secondary music application.

I'm using a Huawei Nexus 6P running Android 7.1.1. My PC is connected to my home network via ethernet cable and my phone is connected to my home network via wi-fi (no cellular). I created a playlist of local files on the computer Spotify client, and I can open the playlist on my phone, however I can't listen to the files or download any of them, instead it just says "waiting to download".

In one instance, the first track downloaded just fine but it would stop from there, I tried removing the download and retrying in order to sync the rest of the tracks but it was stuck at "waiting to download".

I have tried a complete wipe of Spotify from my phone, a reboot then re-install. I also tried turning off my windows firewall and that didn't make a difference. Other things I have tried were toggling the download slider on the local file playlist, and saving each individual song.

Is there any way I can get this to work?

*On a side note, there is a song on Spotify I found that has the explicit tag, however it is the clean version. There are no existing explicit versions on Spotify Canada so if there's someone to reach about that, who should I contact?

Any issues are normally down to communication issues so here's a list of things to check if local files won't download.

  • Your PC and mobile must be connected to the same Network/SSID (PC connected to a modem and mobile connected to a seperate router will not work) and spotify should be running on your PC.
  • In your router settings, check that UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is enabled.
  • Make sure that Windows shows your network as private and not public.
  • Set exceptions for spotify in any firewall or internet security programme. If you are unsure how to do this, temporarily disable them.
  • Check that you haven't already hit the limit of 3,333 downloads per device or 9,999 downloads across all devices.
  • If you are using a wifi network outside of your home, there is every chance that the protocols used by spotify for downloading are blocked.

If you still can't make it work, you can create a mobile hotspot on your mobile and connect your PC to this hotspot via wifi. Syncing the local files should then work.

The explicit thing can be reported here.
