I also have a Samsung S5 Android ver 5.0 and had the same issue. Application crashes after login.

Work-around is to revert back to Spotify ver 2.9. Let's hope Spotify dev team will address this bug in future releases.

1. Try uninstalling and completely clearing the cache and the local spotify folder on your android device.

2. You can always try revert to the previous Spotify for Android version that worked on your device, the last version was. Open your spotify app and navigate to Settings ->Scroll down to about -> Version.

Then go to http://spotify.en.uptodown.com/android/old and locate your version.

Then download to your device the previous version. Uninstall your current version then click on the API file in your downloads folder on your phone and it will install automatically.

For example, I am running version 4.4.1008. So I would download version 4.3.0.837.

When the next spotify version is released download it to see if your problem is fixed.

If you have any questions about this process just reply to this post.

I also have a samsung S5 and this is not a solution! You should be able to download a fully funcitioning app from the Google Play store especially when paying for Premium. For all the non tech savy users can you please provide more details how to access an older version, can this not be made available on the app stores for ease of access?! This has been going on for months now!!
