Car thing says to plug it into the adapter. I've tried 2 different adaptors, a USB port, a different car, but Car thing will not move out of the error screen.
2014 Acura MDX. Was able to verify 12v are coming out of each plug I use.
Hey @seanlaw27,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
We're sorry to hear you've experienced issues with your Car Thing. You did very good troubleshooting steps already and kudos for that. You can find them through any of these channels, and they can take a deeper look and give you personalized help with this situation.
We hope this is useful. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
I have the same issue. Sometimes I get lucky and get it to clear by unplugging from the back of the car thing and the power adapter and plugging back in. But it’s super annoying to have it happen all the time. Sometimes while I’m using it.
Hi @Khammer,
Thank you for your reply in this thread.
Can you let us know if you tried the troubleshooting steps that's been provided in this thread?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
Hey, you are supposed to use the USB plug provided with Car Thing. If you do have a USB plug that outputs more than 2 amps it might work, but that depends on the adapter and we can't guarantee it.
Why don't just post the answer here ? Why make everything complicated ..
I’m having the same issue and did all the same trouble shooting and it won’t get out of the error screen. Is there a solution to this?
I found another thread that said to hold the bottom button on the front and the right button on the top and it will make it open. And that worked but you have to do that every time you start your car and if that is the case and there is no solution other than that I will be returning it. I like it once I am using it and it works well but I’m not keeping it if it doesn’t work the way it is supposed to
I talked to a service person and they said you just have to push the cord in harder and that worked. You have to push pretty hard, harder than I would think but it clicks and stays in a lot better and that fixed my issue hopefully that helps everyone out that is having that issue
This was my answer! I have ever plugged something in with such force and not broken it. 😅 thank you!
This is crazy. I was getting nervous I was going to break it and it wasn't even half way in. Forced it and now it's fine and no more power issue. It almost seems like a design flaw.
Oh wow! This worked lol. I was trying my original adapter, and I THOUGHT it might have been the plug. Thanks for the suggestion. Literally when you said you had to push it harder than you might think, I had a feeling that was it. They should really put that in the “Setting Up” manual **bleep**
I just have to hold the top right favorite button and it bypasses the adapter error screen. I'm with you though, if this is the fix, I'm returning it. 08 Infinity QX56, plenty of power at the ports.
FYI, this is what it looks like when the plug is all the way in. It does take a bit of force so take your time make sure you lined everything up and push until it sorta clicks and go in.
Good luck!!
Plugged into a normal usb at first and now every time I plug it in using the adapter in the car the error message still pops up was never even able to set it up
