Spotify crashes when connecting to Car Thing

Solved!

Spotify crashes when connecting to Car Thing

Plan

Country

US

Device

OnePlus 9 Pro (from factory)

Operating System

Android 12 OxygenOS(LE2125_11_C.47)

My Question or Issue

When I try to connect my Spotify Car Thing the app will crash and no longer open. To get the app to reopen I must clear stored data and login again. As soon as I attempt connection again the app will crash and not open. The crash happens as soon as the car thing prompts for pairing with the verification code. My phone will connect to the car thing without issue, if the car thing is connected to my phone the app will not open.

Remedies I've tried

factory reset the car thing

Forget my phone from the car thing's setting

Forget the car thing from my phone's settings

Forget my car stereo and the car thing from my phone

Uninstall Spotify and reinstall while forgetting each device

I'm out of things to try to get this working again. I suppose next would be to factory reset my phone.

Recently Oneplus pushed out an update an update and it seems to have fixed this issue. I was on LE2125_11_c.47 and experienced this issue. I updated to LE2125_11_C.48 and it is now working. If you have a Oneplus 9 with this issue, I'd recommend dropping back down to Android 11, because Android 12 is half-baked, or try updates when they come out.

Hey @Purpleanarchist,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

In this type of case, we'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app. This is often an overlooked step, but it’s more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, would you mind trying using a different device to connect to your Car Thing to see if it makes any difference? This will help us have a better look at the issue.

We'll be waiting for your response.

Still not working...

Hey @Chrisfire,

Thanks for the post.

Can you let us know if you've tried the troubleshooting suggested by @OscarDC and how it went?

If none of that helped, give us more details about the device you're using to connect to the Car Thing.

Cheers.

The fresh install did not work. It still crashes.

Hey @Purpleanarchist,

Thanks for the reply.

You can try using the device of a friend/ family member to connect to Car Thing. This will help us check if the issue is related to the phone or to the Car Thing itself.

Something else you can check is if Bluetooth is enabled on your phone before you try connecting to the Car Thing.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

I have the same phone and os version (One plus 9 and android 12) and am currently suffering the same problem. Factory resets did nothing, clean installs of Spotify did nothing to fix my issue, Unpairing other devices also still resulted in me being unable to use the car thing. If I try to repair with it I can get to the pairing code screen before the car thing will freeze up and the phone will kick me out of car thing setup and start crashing Spotify. Haven't been able to use the device for about a month because of this.

Just forced the update on to my phone and I can connect to the car thing again! Thanks for the heads up
