My Question or Issue

As you can see from the screenshot Spotify which runs OK on my car device does not recognize it is run on Android 10. When I want to launch the Car Thing option it says I need to be on Android 8 or higher which obviously I am.

How to run Car Thing please?

Thanks

Hi @IamAUserOder,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for posting.

If you're not able to set up your Car Thing, please keep in mind the process has to be made through your phone and not through your car's audio device.

In this website you can find the necessary information about it.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Hello

There was a confusion about what CarThing was.

My car entertainment system runs on Android 10 so I can run apps like on a mobile phone. So when in the car I use Spotify directly from there rather than connecting my phone to the car etc... This is better because I can control the app by touching the screen. Really this is like having an embedded mobile phone.

This said, when I saw the button CarThing, I tried it and got that error message.

I now understand it is a totally different thing and I requested Spotify to improve the error message as it is absolutely not related to the issue.

Thank you and sorry for the delay in replying.

Best day are still ahead

Hey @IamAUserOder,

Thanks for your reply.

That's right, Car Thing is an external device specifically to use Spotify in the car.

Seems that what you're using is Android Auto. You can find more info about ways to use Spotify in the car in this article.

Hi

I am afraid no, this is not Android Auto. This is the full version of
Android. It is like having a small tablet as your entertainment, navigation
system etc... while still controlling the car (temperature, reversing
camera, take or send phone calls etc.....)

Have a look at the images I sent in my original message, You'll see this is not Android Auto.

Hi @IamAUserOder,

Thanks for your reply and extra info.

To confirm, are you having any issues with the app on the car? The error message you're seeing in the Car Thing section might be expected, considering Car Thing isn't available in your market.

Currently, Spotify is exploring a variety of new ways to deliver the best in-car listening experience for our users. We're also retiring certain features like our in-car Now Playing View for Android, to make way for innovations coming down the track. However, we can't set a specific timeframe for when this will be rolled out.

Hope this clears things up. The Community is here in case you have any questions.

Hi CarlosE

No issue anymore. There was simply confusion due to the error message which was not appropriate for the situation.

This can be closed
