Why smartphone for the CarThing??

My Question or Issue

I joined the list for the CarThing but I wanted to make sure that it is a stand alone device and that it doesn't have to be paired with a smartphone... because it diesn't make sense to have a spotify device that depends of your smartphone which already has spotify installed.. also if the device is really stand alone, I want to know if I can download my playlists to listed to musing in off-line mode to save on celular data or where celular data is not available

Thanks for the post.

Car Thing is not a stand-alone device, it requeres to be connected to your mobile to function. It allows you to control Spotify through car speakers when connected to your phone by using both voice recognition and preset buttons.

Car Thing doesn't have any built-in voice output, it uses the car's stereo (via a phone) to adjust the audio volume the driver uses the car's volume controls (at the radio, wheel, or car head unit), or phone music volume controls.

Thanks so Much Alex for the additional info... Sorry but I don't see any value on this device if it needs to be paird with my smartphone which already has spotify and Alexa integrated vía Echo Auto (for 19USD) and it works like a charm... I was hoppoing the Car Thing was a full stand alone device capable of even store my playlists. Hope you guys re-think the design of it and then I will be more than glad to pay even 100 USD for ir... how can I get unsunscribed off of the Car Thing list?

We understand completely that in your case Car Thing might not be the ideal device. It's main use is to supplement for those who don't have a built in way to control Spotify via their built-in dashboard, or want a different interface.

If you've chosen to be notified of CarThing availability, you can always ignore it and it will be passed on furhter down the list.
