Hey Community,
In today’s blog, we want to chat about one of the ways you can enjoy content from the LGBTQIA+ community in Spotify.
All year round at Spotify, we celebrate unique and diverse voices from the LGBTQIA+ community, but Pride is an opportunity to turn up the volume. In most places, Pride month is celebrated throughout June.
The theme of this year’s Pride celebration at Spotify is Free to Be:
Spotify is supporting freedom of expression and amplifying under-told queer voices, stories and subcultures.
“We want to see a world where everyone is Free To Be, no matter who they are, where they live, or what communities they belong to.”
“Pride” can be seen as many things, including a chance to be who you are, and to fight against violence and discrimination. No matter how you choose to recognise Pride, we’re proud to stand alongside you and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.
Let’s talk about GLOW:
If you don’t yet know about GLOW, available in 50+ markets, The GLOW hub serves as a dedicated space on Spotify “to highlight audio offerings of LGBTQIA+ voices for queer listeners and allies”.
You can find things like:
Glow:
GLOW
Our global flagship playlist. GLOW refreshes monthly, to highlight tracks by LGBTQIA+ artists, “The hottest songs from LGBTQIA+ artists”.
Podcasts:
Featured podcasts such as shout outs to Two Twos Podcast , and Out with Suzi Ruffell:
Two Twos Podcast Out with Suzi Ruffell
Playlists:
Guest curated playlists, like Nick and Charlie's mixtape (Heartstopper on Netflix!)
Heartstopper: Nick and Charlie
All original, all LGBTQIA+:
“All original, all LGBTQIA+” sounds such as the essentials from songwriter Ilsey, all in one playlist:
“Written By Ilsey”
And that’s just to name a few!
Throughout June for Pride, the Glow hub is getting updated with lots more incredible audio!
We also celebrated Pride in NYC on Wed 6/21 at the legendary 3 Dollar Bill in partnership with Interview Magazine. We gathered artists, industry partners and the community for an electric night of dancing, joy and celebration of GLOW and Pride, featuring local and international DJ icons Bearcat, Sterling Juan Diaz, Byrell The Great, and bronz3_g0dd3ss. GLOW and Interview Magazine’s media partnership will continue throughout the summer on social. Check out a recap of the event in Interview Magazine here – lookout for more content rolling out over the next week!
Keep an eye out for things like artist’s playlist stories in our GLOW global flagship playlist too, custom podcast episodes, and new local playlists in some markets!
You can still check out January’s For the Record post for more detailed info on the GLOW hub (if you haven’t had a chance to check this out yet)! But in the meantime,
Happy Pride!
