Hey hey, everyone! The last month of 2024 is indeed here, so I hope you’ve all been nice this year, lest the jolly old man leave mining produce in your footwear. I personally had a pretty exciting year and I hope you did too. Now, it feels good to wind down and just reflect a bit while we check out and discuss our Wrapped. But it’s the holiday season now and no matter what has happened in the last 12 months, we gotta end this year with a bang and start the next one in much the same vain. Over here in Bulgaria when you add the 8th of December as well as several namedays in January (including mine), we get almost two solid months of reasons to party. So it only feels apt, in what is going to be my last blog of the year, to give you the soundtrack you need to make it an unforgettable night that you may or may not remember for various reasons. I present you, probably the most fun topic I’ve ever done, my personal collection of some of the best party songs ever! Pop the champagne and let’s dive in!
Right, so I usually like to start with some sort of history section, but this doesn’t really apply here now does it? We’re all people, we all love to party, enjoy a drink and have fun, so it’s no surprise that music about the same has been around since before we even knew how to write these things down. If we go all the way to contemporary pop music, partying is one of the most common topics. I mean, with this blog and the one I did on romance earlier in the year, I’ve basically covered what 98% of pop songs are about. And while many can be a bit shallow, there are definitely bangers to be found all over that just uplift the mood and set the tone right to just let loose and be merry. Even if the lyrics aren’t explicitly about having a fiesta, a good melody and a catchy beat are all you need to get yourself moving!
Special shoutout goes to LMFAO. Deep they are certainly not, but their party rockin’ synth-laden dancey tracks never fail to get things going in the right direction any night of the year!
Of course if the Anglosphere can’t satiate you, you can always add some more cultural flair to your party mix. They usually say mixing too many things can lead to headaches, but sometimes feeling like a citizen of the world is quite rewarding and it keeps our arms and hearts open to new things! Plus, each region has its own flair and adds something new and unique to this colourful cocktail.
And if the modern stuff doesn’t do it for you, the past decades have mountains of awesome tracks for you to jam you. Whether you’re feeling the disco fever, going deep into new wave or just unearthing the chart toppers of yore, the good times are guaranteed and they’re also so good at bringing generations together too! Across space and time, the party never stops!
Where pop can be found, hip hop usually isn’t far away and rappers definitely know how to have a good time. While I think rap is at its finest when it presents the harsh truths of real life in an engaging and entertaining way, I can’t deny that when the DJ puts on some party rap, I am ready to throw down!
But of course, probably the most natural choice for a good night in good company is in the electronic sphere, primarily EDM, house, trance and other adjacent styles. I mean, what other music gets you up and ready to tear it up quite like them! It hits hard, it’s catchy as hell and fires you up in all the right ways! Even in the darker areas like industrial or hardstyle, the love for jamming out is never lost and there’s plenty of bangers to be found. Who doesn’t love a good rave, right? Plus, you don’t need to go to Lollapalooza or Tomorrowland to have a blast, sometimes all you need is some laser pointers, a house without nearby neighbours and some friends crazy enough to follow your lead!
For a more different vibe, I personally always go back to the Prodigy. I don’t know what secret ingredient they put in their concoctions, but they are some of the most pumping and hard hitting songs ever unleashed upon mankind. So if you wanna just go full bananas, there’s probably no better choice!
And if you like some more bite to your dance hymns, I suggest the works of the eccentric Norwegian Andy LaPlegua. Across his various projects but namely Combichrist and Icon of Coil, he has proven that he can produce some of the most awesome club bangers ever conceived by man. These hard hitting tunes will kick you into overdrive and then leave you pulverized and begging for more!
But let’s shift to something completely different – sea shanties! Yes, these wonderful old traditions that sailors used in centuries past to keep their morale up in the most grueling conditions are now seeing a huge resurgence in popularity. The conditions are thankfully vastly different, but there really is a lot to appreciate to this day. A lot of these tunes both old and new are about sharing a drink with friends, being grateful for the camaraderie you have and just enjoying the moments you get to share. The songs are also designed to incite big singalongs and to make you wanna dance, so partying into the night is what these are so perfectly suited for!
This is a perfect segue into one of my go to party selections – pirate metal! Take everything you love about sea shanties, mix it with energetic upbeat metal and you get a cocktail that is sure to get the party on the main deck going wild. Pirates seem like a rowdy bunch, but they love to have a good time – the same can be said about today’s metalheads too! The catalyst for this were of course the Scottish phenomenon Alestorm, who have distilled their pirate brew to perfection, injecting a healthy dose of humour and wit into the mix to make for an experience that is adventurous and uplifting and will make you wanna raise the sails and go questing as much as it will make you dash to the nearest tavern and get the pints flowing.
Alestorm of course didn’t remain by themselves for long and with a party this loud, many others will want to join in. The more, the merrier as the saying goes and the more voices we have for our shanties, the louder we can sing into the night, until Davy Jones himself hears us from the depths!
But pirate metal isn’t the first time folk metal bands have partied this hard, far from it. We all know what old folk tales are like – when they’re not busy scaring the kids with creepy crawlies, it’s all about dancing, singing, being jolly and enjoying your homebrews around a campfire in the forest. The naturally danceable rhythms of traditional folklore combined with moshable death metal is a volatile mixture and the result can only be one thing – a party that will rattle the Gods themselves! Everyone is invited and even the dwarves, elves, goblins and gnomes are welcome to the table! We all just wanna enjoy ourselves and its even better when we do it together!
Where folk metal can be found, power metal usually isn’t far. In recent times, there’s been a tidal wave of new power bands that add a more humorous touch to their approach and they have since provided us with some awesome party power tunes. Fast, energetic, whimsical and epic, ideal for both questing, resting between questing and then questing some more!
All of this should come as no surprise though. Rock and metal music have always loved to have a good time. “Something, something and rock ‘n’ roll” or however the saying goes. What better than to let down your hair, let loose and party into the night. Awesome tracks old and new from all over the rock and metal sphere and standing ready for you to grab life by the throat and race off into new adventures!
Old and new, or old and nu I should say, is quite an apt descriptor. As I’ve already told you before, nu metal came in during the 90s, took the metal world by storm and shook all of popular music to its core, leaving lasting reverberations that can be felt to this day. The Adidas-sporting, dreadlock-clad diverse bunch that is nu metal always loved to have a blast and the rebellious, youthful free spirit of the genre, as well as its multicultural and multigenre heritage lead it to having some of the most varied, energizing, bombastic and unforgettable party tunes ever made! It just pumps you full of adrenaline and send your heart into the stratosphere. Just ask Limp Bizkit what happened at Woodstock 99. Or don’t, they really don’t like talking about it.
When talking about nu metal, the best party animals in my opinion are the revivalists Hollywood Undead. I've already given you a full recipe for their chaotic growth and peerless experimentation but needless to say, they combine the best parts of metal and hip hop while also embracing the catchiness of pop and heart pounding beats of techno, all blended into their discography and distilled into the most exquisite fiesta fuel ever conceived.
As the various branches of extreme metal evolved over the years, they have taken a foothold within the greater metal sphere and become the most prominent and exciting movements to follow. But don’t let their dark, brooding, macabre personas fool you. Death and black metal fans love to enjoy themselves too and have a great sense of humour too, even if it is a little off-colour. When they choose to let loose, they do it hard! Being so heavy and fast, these tracks can turn even the most timid listener into a party animal to behold. Throw in moshing and our other concert staples and you have a guaranteed blast! Remember, if everything doesn’t hurt the day after, that means the show sucked!
For a specific example, just look at the slamming party freaks Party Cannon! Yes yes, I know I’ve already talked about them multiple times, even gave them their own segment, but you can’t have a party blog without Party Cannon!
They are also associated with the greater grind sphere and all of its various subgenres. They might seem overly gruesome and violent on the outside, but in reality, it’s just a bunch of folks that wanna have fun with fast, aggressive music. I’ve been to several grind shows and let me tell ya, there is nothing quite like a grind party! These are some of the most open minded and fun people you can meet and the crushing, pounding riffs of the bands are just begging to let you dance. Horizontally or vertically is up to you.
But, I saved the best for last. For when it comes to partying your socks off, there is one genre that reigns supreme – Balkan folk punk! If you’re unfamiliar or have never experienced this live, (first of all, I’m sorry for you, please rectify that!) these guys combine everything possible for the biggest fiesta imaginable. The fast, catchy, moshpit worthy riffs of punk rock, mixed with some dancey Balkan folk instrumentation, all to set to humorous poetry about rebellion, recreation and rakia. It’s the perfect brew for the perfect night. Endless dancing, jumping, moshing, singing and screaming night after night until you can’t go anymore, that’s just a taste of what happens here. Plus, for me personally, the fact that it reflects my own heritage and speaks to the world I grew up in is just the cherry on top. Trust me when I tell you, there is no better party on Earth!
If you want the best that this genre has to offer, then look no further than the mighty Bosnian bonanza Dubioza Kolektiv. The self-styled “ska folk punk reggae extravaganza” are a storm like no other. Mixing every genre imaginable from electro and hip hop to classic Balkan folk dances into a concoction that is irresistible no matter where you’re from, Dubioza have some of the most heart pounding and instantly memorable tracks ever! Their ceaseless energy, infectious personalities and great sense of humour have also made them one of the most must see live bands in the world. Seriously, do yourself a favour and go see them in the flesh first chance you get, you will experience something you’ve never even fathomed before. The fact that they tackle serious issues in such an unquestionably fun way just makes their entire body of work that much more impressive. I also want to personality thank them for their weekly free quarantine live streams, these were the closest we could get to a real concert for a good while and it helped many of us stay sane during that time. Dubioza do a huge service to the world and that service is just spreading pure unfiltered joy.
So there you have it, a collection of some of the most awesome party tracks ever from every genre imaginable! It’s getting late now, so I think it’s time to wrap things up. As I said at the start, this is a very celebratory period for all of us and after a long year of ups and downs, we all deserve to relax a bit and just enjoy ourselves. So hang out with some friends and family, enjoy the moment and remember that letting yourself be at ease from time to time is vital to staying healthy and happy. So just go out there and tear it up! I’ve given you the ideal playlist! Happy Holidays to you all, take care, be responsible and I’ll see you again after we’ve all recuperated from the festivities.

P.S. Thus concludes another year of blogs for me and the first full year with consistent releases from beginning to end! I didn’t skip a beat, managed to try many new things and I think I’ve broadened my horizons for all new ideas and experiences. It doesn’t feel like I’ve already conjured 40+ instalments of these, but here we are! Thank you all once again for the wonderful support and for allowing me to do this, it’s my utmost honour and pleasure! If you think I’m done, far from it. You better brace yourselves, because I have even bigger plans for next year. The Bizarre One will rise again, mark my words. But for now, party time!
Cheers and see you in 2025!
