7 days limit on Collaborative Playlist's link

7 days limit on Collaborative Playlist's link

Wouldn't it be nice to let people edit a collaborative playlist you've create for - let's say - your wedding party for more than 7 days?

Good day @Tititiiii , thanks for dropping by 😄

The seven days is the time limit within which a user who's received a link has to click it in order to be registered as a collaborator. From then onwards they can keep adding songs even long after 7 days has elapsed.

Pus the limit serves to protect your privacy as well by reducing chances of someone unauthorized gaining access to your playlists.

I hope this clears things up. Let me know if you've any questions or comments.

Hi, indeed the 7days limit is a good default value to close the playlist but it would be better if each user could change this values according to their porpouse. E.g up to 3 months... Then, if someone else adds bad music to the playlist it's not a spotify issue in my opinion

Hello once again @culoecamicia

I get where you're coming from, and you definitely have a point there. It's just that one of the main reasons why the change was implemented was to deal with the issue of playlist creators having random people add songs or make changes and things like that.

If you feel strongly about this, you could leave it as a suggestion in the Ideas board and try to gain support from other community members.

Take care. 🎧💚

How do you know when the 7 days starts? Is it 7 days from when you created the playlist or 7 days from when your first collaborator joins? I have created a playlist and have a link but have not yet sent it out so when will the 7 days start? Can you regenerate a link so the 7 days starts again?

No, the counter starts when the link is created and you cannot regenerate
it. For this reason we switched to another software in order to create the
collaborative playlist.

Once the playlist link is sent and it's opened within the 7 day limit, how long can they listen to it after? Can it be downloaded on a phone and listened to? I also want to know if that person has to be subscribed to premium (ad free) to even be able to play my list?  What if they only have the free version of Spotify account?

Hi there @Kdramalove208,

Thanks for reaching out. The time limit is for the link only, after the other person opens the link and joins as a collaborator they have the playlist for as long as they like and can contribute until they leave or you remove them. What subscription they have also has no bearing on this.

Hope this clears things up.

Hi once I share the link with my wife, is the 7 day limit only the period of time she is allowed to add to the playlist? Is she still able to listen to the playlist after the 7 day period and if so is there a time limit on listening to another person's playlist.

She is running a marathon soon and I would hate for her not to be able to access the playlist and listen to it on race day in a week.

Thank you!

Hey @Paulgass72,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!

As @Joan mentioned, the 7-day limit is the period of time the link will be active for your wife to accept. After she does that, she'll become a contributor to the playlist and will have unlimited access to it, so you don't have to worry about this if she already accepted the invite.

Good luck on her marathon and take care 🏃✌️
