My Question or Issue

Even though I have switched off autoplay it keeps happening... a couple of minutes after ending or pausing what I'm listening to, some terrible music starts up.  I have read about clearing upcoming playlists and do this when it's an option but it's irritating to have to do it every time and it's not always an option. Surely there is a better way.... anyone...? Thanks

Hi @Kirsten13,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

When this occurs, is it always the same playlist/artist, or does it say "Playing recommended songs for you" at the top of the Now Playing View? Since you mentioned you have a Samsung, it's worth checking if you have any routines set up that may be causing this.

Also, do you have any apps linked to your Spotify account here? If so, I'd recommend removing them to see if that helps. You can always reconnect them again if you want to. Something else you can try is logging out everywhere to ensure this isn't caused by another device you're logged in.

Let us know how it goes. Cheers ๐Ÿค˜

I've had the same problem for at least the past year or two. I have autoplay off, as you can see here:

Yesterday, I was listening to a subtle lo-fi album while working. When it ended, I was suddenly treated to explosions and yelling when a podcast came on after. The above screenshot is what my settings showed when that happened.

It has been pretty normal for Spotify to do this for at least a year or two. I've see quite a few other posts while searching broadly for "autoplay,"many describe problems similar to mine, but none with a worthwhile solution in the threads.

Hey @BCrotty,

Thanks for reaching out.

The Autoplay feature wouldn't start podcasts after playing music so this is likely something else. Do you remember what you listened to before the lo-fi album? Have you added anything to your queue? How does the queue look like when this happens?

Once we're able to reliably replicate the issue it will be easier to compile a report and, hopefully, get it fixed, so please provide as many details as possible.

Cheers,

Why would it matter what podcast played? Seems like an irrelevant question.

Songs also frequently shuffle in after a playlist is over, again with
autoplay off. Do you need to know those, too?

Either way, content continues to play when autoplay is off periodically.
Which content plays is not the question.

I have the same problem, listening to a podcast series on my Samsung S22. Autoplay is off, still more episodes start to autoplay even if I only wanted to listen to one episode before I go to sleep. Now it wakes me up! Spotify is now useless.

Hey there @startelver,

Thanks for your reply here and welcome.

Can you send us a video recording of what you are seeing on your side? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it. Make sure we can see the Autoplay setting off and what happens when a podcast episode finishes.

Meanwhile, we suggest you set up a timer within the app, so the playback stops once the episode you're listening to finishes. To do it, go to the Now playing view while playing the episode. At the bottom-right, you'll see a clock icon. Tap it and you'll see the option End of episode, which will stop the playback once the episode finishes.

We'll be on the lookout!

Autoplay is off in Android app and laptop browser. Yet the next unplayed podcast will start when current one ends.

I'm in the same boat! Spotify...PLEASE FIX!
