Do artists still get paid and plays get counted from Spotify Free streams?

Do artists still get paid and plays get counted from Spotify Free streams?

So, my account is a free account. Will artists get paid? And will my plays for them be counted?

I think so, shouldn't matter if the listeneres have a free or premium account.

You might want to look also at (1).

I think so too, though you can't see it on spotify

You could activate scrobbling to lastfm also

I can see the play count on Spotify just fine.

Even if you are a free user, you plays will be counted and artists will be paid.

Hey guys, we have a very detailed explanation about royalties on our Spotify Artists page. You can find out more right here.

Hi Meredith,

I cannot gain access to this link as I am not an artist with Spotify. I am however looking for clear information as to the formulas you use to calculate royalties for artists for my university thesis.

I am under the belief that it is calculated through a mixture of variables, including % premium/ freemium listeners to an artist, and that it is not a pay per play system. However, I've found it difficult to find detail as to what the variables explicitly are, as I have only managed to source this information via other artists in the community.

Some clarity would be much appreciated here 🙂

Thanks!

Is last.fm safe?

@Shah1l

Yes, it is safe. 🙂

If you want to learn more about what this service is all about, read this.

It's basically a good way of having detailed musical history and comparing your musical tastes with others.

Have a nice day!

Spoiler
i know this is late, but...

"If your music generated 20,000 subscription streams that month, then your revenue would be $200.00 (20,000 x $0.01)." a quote from tunecore's site explaining how much is the pay out per stream, and its written 20,000 Subscription Streams, which makes me think that the 0.01$ per stream, only counts if that play has been done from a spotify account / apple music etc. that has a subscription
