Explicit content playing on kids channel

Explicit content playing on kids channel

I was playing The Happy Song Radio this morning for my child and explicit songs kept coming up.  Why wouldn’t a kid song override any other settings to avoid explicit content being shuffled in? Explicit music is no issue for the adult channels we listen to, but it’s unacceptable to mix in on a kid’s channel. Going from Raffi to Eminem’s “Kim” is inconceivable - what elements do those two artists have in common.

Support said to delete my app and redownload. That doesn’t seem to fix the root issue here that kids channels and explicit content should never mix.

Hey, @Dm42
Welcome to the Spotify Community, and thanks for reaching out to us!

The songs' radios are based on the song you picked up but also gather information about your listening activity, so it's normal that include some other songs you may like because it tends to prioritize your music taste.

In this specific case, as a way to avoid explicit content when listening to music, you can consider activating the Explicit Content filter. You can find more information about it here:

Last but not least, Spotify Kids would be a great choice for your kid. It's a standalone app that was designed and made specifically for children giving you full control over what they listen to. For further information, check out this official support article:

Stay awesome! 🎶

We have setup Premium Family.

Kids (age 8,6) have own devices and are with their individual accounts assigned to the family master account.

In the master / parent account we have switched off the explicit content setting for the 2 kids accounts.

However, in the kids account (using the regular Spotify app, not the Spotify Kids app), you are able to change that setting, so the kid can overrule the setting the parent has made.

I would have expected that this setting is disabled.

To me, this is obviously a bug that should be fixed.

My Question or Issue

It sounds like you’re encountering a frustrating issue with the explicit content settings on your Spotify Premium Family plan. Here are some steps you can take to address this:

Verify Settings:
Log in to the Spotify Family page using the master account.
Ensure that the explicit content filter is turned off for the kids’ accounts.
Check App Updates:
Make sure that both the Spotify app and the iOS on the kids’ devices are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes, updates include fixes for such issues.
Re-login:
Have your kids log out and then log back into their Spotify accounts. This can sometimes force the settings to sync correctly.
Use Spotify Kids App:
For better control over content, consider using the Spotify Kids app. This app is designed specifically for children and has stricter content controls
Contact Spotify Support:
If the issue persists, it might be best to contact Spotify Support. They can provide more specific troubleshooting steps or escalate the issue if needed
