How to get an album back on Spotify

How to get an album back on Spotify

Howdy. I am trying to help out an artist, Janey Street, who is not that familiar with Spotify and similar sites. One of her albums, "The Street Less Traveled" used to be on Spotify, but is no longer. This is an album that she owns independently, i.e., it's not owned by any record company. She's asked me to try to find out how to get it back onto Spotify.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hey @Noconflicts,

So kind of you! Thanks for posting on the forum 🙌🏼
The best approach here would be for her to reach out to our support folks who directly handle Artist requests and questions. She can use this link to get in touch with them and get things sorted.

Tip: This support page could be of use as well 🙂

Hope this helps! We're here for you if there's anything else in the meantime.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I and Janey really appreciate it.  I notice that the support page mentions that artists have to "choose a distributor" as the first step.  In this case, for this particular album, she is the sole owner of the music and songs so there is no distributor.  Can she still follow the step as outlined, or would she have to approach it differently? Thanks.

Hey there @Noconflicts

Thanks for getting back to us.

We're afraid currently it's not possible to do this without a distributor. In this case, we'd recommend checking them out so she can choose the one that suits her needs best.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us and will make sure to pass it onto the right team, as we always strive to improve your experience.

When you say "distributor" what do you mean exactly? The album was produced under her own label at the time, "StreetBluz Productions." So how would she find a distributor?  Can she not create her own artist account and then upload the songs? I would probably do it for her, though since as I said earlier, she's not that familiar with all the ins and outs of websites.

It might help if I let you know what Janey told me yesterday:

"I own the record but I had a distribution deal with a company that no longer exists or got bought up. That was many years ago however; they got my record," The street Less Traveled" on all the platforms. I have been happy about that. Now I went to play it and all of a sudden, they are saying the tracks are unavailable. All I really want is for them to put the record  back on my Spotify page and make the tracks available. I have 2 other records on that page that are owned by Blue Elan Records. It had all 3 records on that page but for the "street less traveled"  they are now saying the tracks are not available. I just want to know why and if they can just  make the tracks available again.

That's what I would like to straighten out, but if I have to go to another distributor, I might just forget about it."

It seems to me that there must be something that you all could do to get her album back up, especially sine it used to be on Spotify.
Thanks.

Hi @Noconflicts,

Thanks for keeping in touch. We appreciate all the info you've shared, and we're here to help you get your friend's music back on ASAP.

Now, we understand she owns the album and the record label she worked with in the past doesn't exist anymore. Nevertheless, she still needs to work with a distributor now, in order to, get her music on Spotify.

A distributor is the company that acts as a middleman between an artist or record label and digital service providers (in this case Spotify). So basically, they allow you to upload your music on different platforms or stores. Some of the distributors we recommend are DistroKid, CD Baby, EmuBands. You can go ahead and reach to them if you have questions on how to work with them.

Check out this article to check the complete list of recommended distributors.

The thing is, it's not possible to create an artist profile from scratch. First you need to upload the music through a distributor and once the content is on Spotify, you'll be able to claim the artist profile.

Hope this helps. We'll be here in case you have any additional questions.
