My Question or Issue

There is a new artist - an Indian pop singer called Ravi Shanker - note spelling - which my Release Radar algorhythm is getting confused with the sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. It's deeply annoying.  The are  also two recent hip hop artists called CAN and Traffic, which I now get served up in place of archival releases from the great 70s German Krautrockers CAN, and the 60s/70s English psychedelic/soul group Traffic.  Spotify needs to a) avoid spelling errors, b) figure out some way to deal with duplicate names.

Hi @Martin_Gorsky

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

If you see tracks in your Release Radar by artists with the same names as artists that you follow and enjoy listening to, but the tracks are unrelated to those artists and only share the same names, this happens when a track is initially erroneously uploaded to the artist profile that you follow.

Unfortunately, there’s currently no process in place that can prevent this sort of error from happening, since Spotify relies on submitted metadata. So if you notice content on Spotify with inaccurate metadata (such as in these scenarios of music appearing under the wrong artist profile), I’d recommend reporting the issue to Spotify's Customer Support team here (as is recommended in this relevant support article).

Feel free to also read the Top Answer in this similar thread for more information about the issue you’ve described concerning mixed-up artist profiles with the same name appearing on Release Radar, as well as to read this FAQ article for more information about reporting content on Spotify.

Thanks for yours Adam.  However I have to report that I was unsuccessful when I followed your suggestion of reporting to the Customer Support Team, with what I thought was a very clear description of the problems I mentioned above.  The person (assuming it wasn't automated) seemed not to be able to grasp what the issue was , then kept asking for screenshots in order to take the enquiry forward.  I could no longer give these, as it was in previous weeks' Release Radar.  I mentioned some titles of discs with these problems, though frankly don't see why it is all so difficult.  The points I was reporting are due to Spotify's inaccuarate metadata, as you explained, so it seems unfair to put such an onus on users.  I wondered if the person I was chatting with had any knowledge of music at all.

Hi @Martin_Gorsky,

Thank you for your reply!

This issue has been reported. I suggest the next time you encounter songs/albums containing inaccurate metadata, that you share a link to them (following these steps), and a Community Moderator will take a look.
