Replacing unplayable songs with local files

Country: Belgium

Device: Macbook Pro 16" (2019) & iPhone SE (2) & ...

Operating System:  OS Big Sur 11.4 & iOS 14.6 & ... 

My Question or Issue:

The thing is some songs appear when searched, but aren't playable.

For example: 'Pointless Nostalgic' on the album 'Pointless Nostalgic' by Jamie Cullum.

I have the cd, so I have imported the files onto my computer and into Spotify.

Now, it seems that I can only play these imported songs in the submenu (local files) or when I put them into a playlist.

Now for me it would be logical, that when I search for the album 'Pointless Nostalgic' and it can't play the songs, it would take them out of my local files and play it. Otherwise if I want to listen to this album, I'd always have to go to local files (which hasn't got a great overview; everything is smashed together).

Is there a way to do this?

NOTE: It would be nice from Spotify to give a reason why a song can't be played.

For me, there are 2 numbers on that particular album that can't be played.

Can you provide us the URI of the albums so that we can have a closer look into this?

However, availability can vary over time and between countries, depending on the permissions from rights holders.

For you to be able to listen to your local files you need to enter the playlist/playlists you've added your local files into.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

So there is no way Spotify will search and integrate my local files?

The local files aren't practical to use in Spotify. I'll use another mediaplayer for local files.

A great feature would be that Spotify also searches from the local files.

And maybe replace unplayable songs with local files.

Thanks for the link and the reply.

Yeah, Spotify has no way of searching through your local files, as there is no algorithm in place that would allow the program to do that. This is because the local files are only visible on the device you have the downloaded on, and are not present on Spotify servers.

If you want, you can submit this as an Idea in the Idea Section and let other users vote on it. The more votes an idea gets the more likely it is to get implemented 🙂 More info here.
