Is there a way to search by genre hashtag?
In the iOS app under search there are three hashtags displayed under the heading "Explore your genre" (see screenshot attached).
I want to be able to search for another hashtag that hasnt been recommended. Is there a way to do this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi, Welcome!
With the new updates to Spotify in 2023, it is now possible to search for genre hashtags on the platform. Here's how you can proceed:
Open the Spotify app or the web version.
In the search field, type the genre hashtag you want to explore, using the "#" symbol followed by the genre (for example, "#rock" or "#jazz").
Press "Enter" or "Return" on your keyboard.
Spotify will display search results related to the genre hashtag you entered, including popular songs, albums, artists, and playlists. You can explore these results to discover new songs and artists within the genre of your choice.
I hope I understood your question well and that this is the answer you were looking for. A big hug and have a great Wednesday!

When I go to search, three videos appear. These apparently are 4K HDR, as they tank the app's framerate to a crawl. Getting to type something into the bar is a struggle, and the app is noticeably slower for a while after I go there, presumably until the videos are unloaded. How do I turn these off? I don't want them using my data up regardless.
I’m a premium member that has been using the tiktok feature in the search tab on the app to find music I’ve never heard before or artists I have never listened to in the past. This tiktok feature has been amazing until the last 2 weeks where it has been giving me the same basic artists (Drake, Gunna, Young Thug, etc.) with no other variety. Is there a way to get it to show me different artists again?
Also, the feature has been giving me songs that I already have on one of my playlists, songs that are already super popular that super basic, or songs that Ive already listened to a lot in the past. Is there a way to fix this?
Hi, this is not solved. The Feature disappeared.
If I search for e.g. #rock on Spotify, all I get is songs, playlists or artists that have "rock" in the name.
Please bring back that feature, it made exploring the Spotify Cosmos a bit better.
I usually search like this:
genre:"classic rock"
genre:"metal"
genre:"electronica"
genre:"pop"
Thanks ThomWim! But do you get any good results?
For me it does nothing, sadly. I wish that feature would come back!
Guys, it is FR*AKIN BACK!!!! I guess there is no happier Spotify Customer.
Please never ever delete it 😊
its gone again. the "genre:" search only works with single-word genres
It is possible, use this syntax:
genre:<first word>-<second word>
e.g. genre:indie-rock
This is really good to know, My liked songs is filled with several genres, and sometimes I'm in the mood for metal only, so now I can just filter my liked songs using "#metal"
My question is however can you also do the inverse? Search for every genre EXCEPT X genre?
So for example let's say I'm NOT in the mood for metal at all, I'd then filter my liked songs using "!#metal" / "#!metal" / "!metal"
Is something like that also possible
