My Question or Issue
Since yesterday, all songs from one particular album are greyed out in my playlist. I understand that can happen if content is removed. However, I can play the songs just fine if I go directly to the album and play them from there. Removing the songs from my playlist and re-adding them from the album doesn't help either. Even starting a new playlist from the album doesn't help.
This is the album in question:
I have the exact issue. Some tracks became playable when I tried to add them to the playlist again from the album where they are available. But for some tracks this solution does not work.
I am using it on a web browser on a MacOS.
Hey @dermaniac and @buræquete,
Thanks for reaching out and welcome both to the Community!
Please keep in mind that the availability of music on Spotify can vary over time and between countries, depending on agreements between Spotify and rights holders, such as artists or record labels. That is why sometimes certain content isn't available right away.
You can follow the link in this article here and to report this experience (including the links to the unplayable content) to our Support folks, who can take a closer look and perhaps give you more info on the matter.
Hope you find this useful. Keep us posted if you have any questions.
Hey Kiril, sorry but have you even read anything here? The music is available, it can be played from its album, but it is grayed out when in the user playlist only. It seems to be a some sort of bug, not an availability issue.
Hi folks,
Thank you for your replies and apologies for the confusion.
We'd like to investigate this further, so please share with us the URL links of some of the songs that show grayed out in your playlists but are okay in the albums.
This way we can take a better look at them.
Keep us posted.
Hello MafeG,
Here are my problematic cases;
This playlist top 3 music from portal ost are grayed out; https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6tJLXRT7CCLNoiHmVSadPH
but same music available on their album here; https://open.spotify.com/album/21MOM5nRM9SjIsonoOGY4Q
Hey there @buræquete,
Thanks for letting us know.
Could you let us know if this is only happening in the web player or in the desktop app as well?
On another note, would you mind trying with a different internet connection to see if the same happens?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Here is an example where I experience this issue:
https://open.spotify.com/track/1sZX0uZYLpeBGsw1ie6Rjn?si=7cb2ecfd9b2a4eaa
I can confirm that this only happens in the web player, and not in the Desktop app. It works fine in the Desktop app.
Note that for the web player I tested Google Chrome on both Windows and Ubuntu, as well as Firefox on Ubuntu. The problem persists in all three browsers. I also tested two different internet connections (home and office) and the problem persists in both environments.
Yes only on browser for me too, doesn't happen neither on desktop nor on the iOS app
Hey folks,
Thanks for the info.
Could you try adding the songs to a new playlist? Are there any changes?
Let us know how it goes.
Dear @Ver,
Like I already said in my original post, adding the song to a new playlist does not help. It behaves the same way.
I just tried it again, in case anything changed on your end, and it still does not work. If I add the song from the album to a new playlist, and then select the playlist, the song still shows as unavailable in the playlist.
Hey @dermaniac,
Thanks for keeping us posted.
We'll go ahead and pass the info on to the right team. We can't set a specific timeframe for when this will be fixed, but we'd recommend that you keep your app up-to-date so you don't miss the latest improvements and fixes.
If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.
It seems to be "fixed" now, although it is acting a bit weird.
When I go to this album:
https://open.spotify.com/album/20hu0WXrAZI2JQgjNDReGy
And then add the song "I'll keep coming" to a playlist, it will instead link to this album in the playlist:
https://open.spotify.com/album/4G3ZBFg8MpTSDxDQ3m2BCb
But if I add the song "Don't be so serious" it will link to this album:
https://open.spotify.com/album/6XFBNpil8mfXX28Y7A04Xh
So, essentially there is now one "broken" album from which I can add songs but the songs in the playlist never link back to it, and two albums that work, but one has a broken name ("O").
Hey @dermaniac,
Thanks for sharing your findings here.
This can sometimes happen if content gets removed and re-uploaded to the platform, in which case some tracks might get uploaded with new metadata. We've passed this info on to the right teams at Spotify, but we can't say for sure when this will get updated 🙂
Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions.
