Spotify gets stuck on songs and ads

Spotify gets stuck on songs and ads

Spotify will continuously stay stuck on one song or ad and will not change until the app is closed and restarted. The progress bar continues until the app is restarted, as in the bar for a 4 minute song will show it's been "playing" for 2 hours and completely ignores the sleep timer that was set for 30 minutes.

It is the free version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app twice, cleared all the cache on my phone, logged out and logged in

Hey @Jaynbee813,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

Could you please test this with a different account? If a family member has a Spotify account, it'd be great to ask them to log in on your device to see if they'll be able to reproduce it. This will help us understand if it's account related or not.

It's also a good idea to check with a different network connection to see if it makes any difference. In case you don't have another one available, you can use a mobile data hotspot to test it.

On another note, you've mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, however, we usually recommend doing that with the steps in this article. This'll make sure you have the latest version of the app and that any corrupted files from previous installations files are removed.

Hope this helps. Let us now how it goes.

I have done the clean reinstall and have been on multiple networks, it still gets stuck. I asked a co worker about hers, said it has stalled before but not often at all.

Hi there @Jaynbee813,

Thanks for the reply.  Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on your phone?
  • Does this happen with all content?
  • The exact makes, models and OS/Firmware versions of all your affected devices
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Hey @Jaynbee813,

Thank you for keeping in contact and sharing the info.

In order to check if this could be device-related, would you mind checking on a different device (but using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? You can borrow a device from a friend or family member to test it out.

Also, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device, such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

We'll be on the lookout.

My Question or Issue

This is happening several times a day. I set spotify playing, it will play a couple of tracks and then pause. When I look at the app it has played two tracks as one and is still counting the time. This only seems to happen when I'm listening through my Sonos (all software and drivers up to date)

So if a song should last for 6 minutes it will play that, go on to the next song, play that and then just count the time until I stop it.

I have to clear the cache in the app, go to android app settings, clear the cache and force stop the app. I have uninstall Spotify and reinstalled and still does the same.

As you can imagine with the frequency this is happening, this is really annoying. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have played it on my ps4 and it played just fine. Coworker signed in on my phone and it stalled again so sounds like a system problem

Hi there @Jaynbee813

Thanks for getting back to us.

Based on what you mentioned, it looks like the issue is device-related. In this case, could you let us know if you're using an SD card? If so, we suggest that you remove it > restart your phone > perform a clean reinstall of the app again and let us know if that makes the difference.

On another note, would you mind checking if the OS of your phone has any pending updates?

Lastly, we'd like to know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update.

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I don't use an SD card and I don't see any pending updates for my phone system. For when it started, I know there wasn't an update for my phone and not sure of the app had one then. I started noticing it maybe the end of last month. I see there was an update for the app 5 days ago. It hasn't been happening as much as it had been of that's of any help

Hi @Jaynbee813

Thanks for your reply.

Could you let us know if this happens after or before the ads would play?

On another note, we'd also like to know if this happens all the time or only when you set the sleep timer on the app.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hello,

SInce some days when casting music Spotify continues playing even if the song has ended and thus does not start new number.

Any suggestions are welcome. Se screenshot.

No SD card, no ads since pro version. If I play on phone no problems; only when I cast the stream

Same here not SONOS but casting to BluOS. Is has something to do with casting.

happens all the time; nothing to do with sleep timer on the app

It happens all the time, sleep timer or not, before and after ads. I don't cast to any other system or speaker.

It doesn't happen all the time for me, it's hard to tell what triggers it.

I have access to two Sonos systems, it happens more frequently at the one at work than it does on my home system. The one at work is daily

So Spotify what's next? Problem not solved. For me after two numbers and when phone is not used the problem occurs. How to proceed and how are you going to solve this issue???

Tried to log out of the Android App and then play music from Macbook but then also the music stops after 1-2 numbers. So it has nothing to do with the App I think. What else can we try to do? Maybe I will try to cast it to my TV and check if problem persists.

It happe Ed to me today when I was casting to Sonos. I brought it back to my phone, skipped a song and then re-cast it and it has been fine ever since. It happens more often with .y work Sonos than at home...
